I just saw this a few months ago, must have played on TCM or the like.

It's just a jive song about food. They wrote a few in the late 30s-early 40s - "Hold Tight, Want Some Seafood Mama", "The Frim Fram Sauce", "Pick-A-Rib", and the like.

Uh, you know that those songs aren't actualy about food, right?

However, any double entendre behind "Solid Potato Salad" is still lost on me.

I think it's just a nonsense phrase that fits the rhythm of the song, not unlike "Cement Mixer Putty Putty" or "Shoot The Sherbert To Me Herbert." Certainly nobody could find double entendres there!

I don't know about not finding double entendres, but the title alone, "Shoot the Sherbet to Me Herbert" is just too funny. So I had to find it on iTunes (Tommy Dorsey) and listen - it's great.

Oh lordy! I actually saw the film that this clip came from on TCM...I cannot believe I actually sat through it up until that part....worst classic movie ever!!! I remember trying to suffer through it, and then that scene came on, and my b/f walked in the room and was like, "What in the world are you watching???" And usually he makes "smart" comments about all my old films, but honestly...this time I couldn't even defend it...LOL
