TOP HAT

From 1850 to 1900, men wore top hats for business, pleasure and formal occasions,
pearl gray for daytime, black for day or night—making its wearer feel taller.

Gentleman’s Silk Top Hat (British), c.1875.

By 1900 the top hat was made with silk and worn only for special occasions, such
as weddings and dances.

Women wearing top hats. But those top hats are usually riding hats which the
original top hat was styled from.

That thing looks like it would give small children nightmares.

Would it have killed 'em to wait until someone shoveled those road apples out of the picture?

My grandmother had a wooden head
statue about 12” dia. hanging above the
dining room.
During the day, I was mostly outdoors
playing.
It was at night that the thing became really spooky especially when I had to walk past the dining room to go to the bathroom. I swear those eyes were staring at me.
