May 9

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Victory_Day_%28Eastern_Europe%29

This capitulation was signed late in the evening on May 8, 1945 (May 9 in the Moscow time zone), following the original capitulation Germany signed earlier to the joint Allied forces. The Soviet government announced the victory early on May 9 after the signing ceremony in Berlin.[1]

General Zhukov reading the German capitulation. Seated on his right was Arthur Tedder, Marshal of the Royal Air Force.
The May 9 Victory Day is celebrated in most of the successor states to the Soviet Union, especially in Russia, Ukraine and Belarus

There were some things yesterday remembering VE Day and more specifically for Norway, liberation.

However the Norwegian National Day is on the 17th May, so this is when the really big celebrations start.

The end of nearly 6 years of conflict in Europe, a very special day. Thank you MrBern for starting this thread.

Such an important date in history and you never hear mention of it anymore in the news media...............whats that saying about"those who forget history are doomed to repeat it".
