Quigley and PrettySquare - those are wonderful! I just picked up my first piece of vintage souvenir-ery. It's not any earlier than '69, as that is when the Hilton was built I found. But I love it for it's ugly kitsch. It's mounted like a plate, but I think it's an ashtray (?)

I love vintage souveniers!

Here are the only ones I have pictures of right now:

IMG_0148.jpg

A bunch o' brochures from Floridian roadside attractions in the early 50s.

I've got tons of postcards and I love the old domed glass paperweights with the pictures inside of them (I've got a Cliff House and Seal Rocks one from the 30s and a Florida flamingo one from the 50s). I also love souvenier aprons (I have a killer vintage vegas apron with all the classic casino signs and a roulette wheel on it) and linens. I've got a zillion souvenier floaty pens at home, I collect them as well. And I love the hanging pictures that they would make from a slice of log that had a picture shellacked to it - I have a couple of these from Niagra Falls.

I also just recently found a wooden souvenier letter holder from the 40s with a picture of Gettysburg shellacked to it at a yard sale. Paid a big 50 cents for it and it's now holding my letters on my desk next to two vintage pen holders that are cats (the pen goes where the cats tail would be).

Forgot to add - I have a large collection of vintage souvenier swizzle sticks as well.

And I've started getting squashed pennies every time I see a machine. There's something very appealling to me in a vintage, kitshy souvenier way about squashed pennies.

And I almost forgot the salt & pepper shakers - I've got a vitnage Flamingo set from florida and a vintage wooden set with pictures of hibiscous flowers shellecked to them from Hawaii.

I have about a billion...

little metal building replicas. Well perhaps not that many. But they are in every room in my house. All of my family and my friends tend to pick me one up on their travels. I also find they are my favorite find while hitting the antique markets. I'll have to take some pics.

Was the moonshine still in the brochure in St. Augustine?

WOW! that is some good stuff for old Vegas! I have a black plate with the casinos shown on it and a metal plate for the state of Nevada. I have a wampum bag, leather money pouch with Las Vegas major casinos shown. 5 or 6 old Vegas casino ashtrays and some coffee mugs. Lots of used craps dice and some casino imprint rock glasses from old Vegas. And to be in the mood a couple of recorded live cd's of Louie Prima & Keely Smith, Sinatra at the Sands also Count Basie at the Sands (opening for Sinatra) and a cd or two of Dino doing his routine. I also have A&E and history channel DVD's of the history of Las Vegas. Also Susan Berman's Vegas book and several others on Vegas.

I guess I like Las Vegas and have a fondness for the past.

Here is a souvenir from a trip I never took - cigarette holder & lighter, never used, perfect condition - got it from a friend of the family who got it while in the military back in the 1950s.

I'm not sure, I'll have to check.

There was an entire box of these brochures from florida at an estate sale that I went to. I didn't have much money on me, so I picked out the best of the bunch. I still wish I would have just bit the bullet and bought the whole box.

A HA! Now I know why I can't find these like I used to! lol
Actually I've been collecting the state park nature scene sub-genre, for my son's room- I've got about a half dozen, but they're few and far between these days!
