Currently watching The Long, Long Trailer. Hilarious!

Watched this at the drive-in theater as a kid one summer long long ago.

At school, back from vacation, teacher had us go to the front of the class and
talk about what we did during the summer vacation time.
Embarrassed that my folks hardly went
on vacation, I made it up.

Guess what the story was?

Yep!

Now that I think about it... this is
the first time I've ever mentioned
this to anyone.
Sorry it had to be you. :(

"Fog Over Frisco" 1934

A fun early Davis movie - she's a lithe blonde with almost none of the hard edge to come visible yet - which mixes upper-class with mobsters / investment firms with security fraud and throws in cops, reporters and some scorned lovers. All this rips along at wrap speed, as those early movies do sometimes, with a climatic car chase and shoot out and, then, calls it a day. Watch it for Davis, the period details (heavy Deco influences in the architecture and clothes), its energy and its shots of SanFran in '34. Don't watch it expecting a really coherent story.

"A Dog's Purpose" 2017

A slightly dressed up Hallmark story narrated by a dog that is reincarnated several times. It's from his perspective and hits some funny notes about how dogs "see" humans - similar to what the TV show "Downward Dog" is doing. It's weakest in its overall story which shows a progression of families from the '50s until today as the dog keeps coming back to life as another dog but with his prior-life memory intact. If you love dogs, like seeing the world from our perspective of their perspective and don't mind two-dimensional, "you know where this is going" stories, it works well enough and, heck, the dogs are really cute.

I am no big Bond fan these days, I've seen each Craig film exactly once. But I will say that Skyfall is unquestionably the best-looking Bond film ever. My favorite current cinematographer, Roger Deakins (look up his credits and marvel!), working in digital for the first time. It's gorgeous!

I think Casino Royale and Skyfall are about on equal footing. But I think Casino edges it out slightly...

The only one of the Craig Bonds I've seen more than once is "CR," but now I'm going to have to watch "Skyfall" again. "Spectre" was, IMHO, the weakest of his four - still enjoyed it, but noticeably less than the other three - for example, some of the desert scenes almost felt Roger Moore '70s like.

While this stuff is all opinion, you thought it was better than "Casino Royale?"
I did and do, even though Casino Royale is based directly on the debut Fleming novel, shows Bond falling in love, and even contains the "The bitch is dead now" line that ended the original novel.

Skyfall is my favorite because of the surprises. We get a new and young Q, a supposed hide-bound bureaucrat (Ralph Fiennes's Mallory) who turns out to be a stand-up guy, M quoting Tennyson, the unexpected reappearance of the Aston Martin DB5, and glimpses of Bond's background (including using some of Fleming's own "obituary" of Bond in one scene, and the names of his parents in another). Then you have flashes of real character-based humor; Albert Finney in a small but important role; and a view of Bond as strategist and tactician, taking control of the chain of plot and counterplot as he draws Silva and his men to a battleground of Bond's choosing.

It would be a top-notch thriller even if it weren't a Bond story.

Love Story. Of course, I watched so I could see the real star of the movie. She was so beautiful, her gleaming black skin, red leather, and her sexy silver wire wheels, oh how I longed to caress her wood steering wheel!

Doctor Strange (2016). First, let me say that I had heard of Doctor Strange before seeing this movie, but otherwise had zero knowledge of him and/or his back story. That being said, I found it entertaining enough but felt it suffered from being another "by the numbers" Marvel Studios script--relatively average guy/girl gets drawn kicking and screaming into a world of superheroes/supernatural beings/supervillains/whatever, faces insurmountable odds, and emerges victorious despite having minimal training and/or experience. This movie, perhaps more so than the other Marvel superhero movies, also relies too heavily on CGI, but it's well done and quite beautiful in some scenes. Worth seeing if you're a fan of the genre, not so much if you aren't.

I hate that I like this movie, kinda, on the right day and in the right mood, it's embarrassing escapism. And, yes, gorgeous car. Also, in my defense, it is great to see one of my favorite GE actors Ray Milland as the uber-waspy Oliver Barrett the whatever #.

I concur wholeheartedly. I was an original member of the Merry Marvel Marching Society! I bleed Marvel. Read Doctor Strange comics when they were drawn by Steve Ditko and paired with "Nick Fury - Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D." But I found this movie boring. I've made it halfway through and haven't finished it yet and it's been about a week. All of your criticisms are spot on! Thanks for letting me know I'm not alone in my opinion....

The Scarlet Coat, a fifties flick about Revolutionary War spies in the Benedict Arnold/Major Andre affair, with Cornel Wilde, Michael Wilding, and Anne Francis, and directed by the usually solid John Sturges.

As someone who's always lived in the Hudson Valley and visited the locations where this took place, and done some reading about it... this film was pretty disappointing. Not really accurate to the history, not especially well written or well acted. Not recommended.

Previewed "The Lovers" this morning, in preparation for a run next week, and found it surprisingly enjoyable. We seldom seem to get any kind of comedies these days, and this one is only a comedy in the sense that nobody dies in it. Debra Winger -- unrecognizably gaunt and haggard -- and Tracy Letts . . .

My goodness, there are a lot of films with that title!
