White Lapels on Black Dinner Jackets?

Recently saw a photograph from Cairo during the 1940's in which a few men have white satin lapel facings on black double breasted jackets. Has anyone heard of this before, or was it a strange Egyptian fad? The gentlemen wearing it appear to be Egyptians as opposed to expats (who also appear in the photo but wearing more standard DJs!)

Judging by the others in the photo (Sir Miles Lampson, Russel Pasha, for example) I'm guessing the Egyptians from the upper classes...

I've been researching tuxedo history and etiquette for the past three years and I haven't come across that one!
