at a restaurant last night with coworkers since its one's last day. Its the new stetson panama model, i forget the exact one, i believe i posted about it last year when i got it. I normally would take it off indoors but there was absolutely no place to put it down so i had to wear it. The place was rather open to the street so it wasn't entirely inappropriate i guess.

A Memorable Memorial Day Weekend In Chicago, Part 2


Our hotel for the long weekend, the Hampton Majestic, originally the Majestic Theater. We decided to break with tradition and stay at this 1906 landmark, now known as the Bank Of America Theater.



Designed by famed architect Edward Krause in the Beaux Arts style, with strong neoclassical Roman and Greek influences, the building was the tallest in Chicago at one time.

In the lobby of Symphony Center for Saturday night's Chicago Symphony Orchestra concert, looking none too pleased with the incessant rain.

Getting ready to head to our seats to hear Emanuel Ax play Mozart, and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra perform our favorite symphonic work, Brahms' 4th, under the baton of the venerable Bernard Haitink.

Michigan Avenue is bathed in the intense yellow light of the sodium-vapor street lamps.



Orchestra Hall is a beautiful, grand space, but acoustically less than optimal.



With Edward, one of the head ushers, after the concert. We always look forward to seeing his familiar face at CSO performances.

Plenty of architectural beauty to enjoy, even at night.



Walking past our usual abode in the city, The Palmer House. The Hampton Majestic is but a few steps away, just across State Street.



It seemed somewhat surreal to me, as we strolled along Monroe Street late at night, reflecting upon all we had experienced earlier in the day. I was still riding the emotional high of our visit to Optimo Fine Hats!



Back at our hotel. The illuminated spires of the post-modern 60-story Franklin Center in the distance, contrasting against the century old terracotta of the Majestic Theater.

I live in Chicago, work in the north loop, and have been to many of the places that you have photographed, but I must say that you have an eye for capturing an elegance and surrealistic view of the city to which I have never seen before. I was pleased a nearby restaurant actually has a coat and hat checkout despite not being over the top ritzy. I appreciate things like that. Its so sad going to a nice restaurant and seeing people in shorts, t shirts, wife beaters, ball caps unremoved. atmosphere killer.
