This is a 50's Knox I found in just about NOS shape at an antique store. It was originally a 6 7/8, stained, dirty, and smelly. I sent it to Aureliano, who was kind enough to resize, reblock, clean, and reflange the brim. It's now in excellent shape, with a slightly lower crown (which actually looks a bit better on me), and the brim isn't warped like how a hat normally looks after being put through a stretcher. Kudos to Aureliano for his excellent work!

The hat appears to be 50's to me, plastic liner tip, and a price tag marked $10. I chose to have it worked on because in it's prior condition, the staining made it unwearable. Aureliano worked some of his magic on it, and removed all of the stains! And a 2-size jump isn't easy, especially when keeping all of the original features.

The best part for me is that the price of the hat (along with a Knox 2-hat box) was $10 for the lot!

Thanks again to Aureliano for his excellent work!

New Akubra ~Superfine felt (?)

From another online auction site. When I finally GOT it (THANKS CANADA POST!) imagine my surprise to see the sweatband embossed with the word "CAMPDRAFT"!

Color me thrilled! My only 'superfine' & it will soon be fedora-ed. I'll post some pix when I do that... in about four months or whenever the temps get out of the nineties!

A Superfine Campdraft is as intriguing as a Heritage Campdraft!!!!
Great find!

Thank you, my friend. I can't speculate as to the era & do not not know if the Campdraft & the Akubra made Stetson Open Road,
Stetkubra.jpg

seen here, were in the shops at the same time, either. Maybe some Ozzie could fill us in?

I will try & get some pix of the two together. They seem to have quite different ribbons & overall proportions.

Rick, looking forward to your re-crease photos. Although that porkpie crease looks very expertly done, it seems wrong for that hat. And speaking of dating it, I'm off to check the Akubra thread for clues, maybe that fabric sticker on the ceiling gives away the time frame . . . Anyhow, nice score.

+1. Textured bands of varying degrees are pretty common on that "sporty" (Game Bird, Gun Club) style.

On an "other-than-eBay-site" (Etsy).

The hat is better traveled than I am!

Early 1900's Stetson Clear Nutria The Fray Fedora or Western?

Well this has been sitting on Etsy for quite a while and I keep hoping that a lounge member buys it just as a historical artifact. The sellers measurements seem to make the hat a 6 1/2 or 6 3/4. She had told me it was given to her mother when she was a little girl so there's probably no chance that the hat is any bigger than a child size. I just couldn't take it anymore and I made an offer to the seller, which she took. I wanted to buy this hat as a display piece as well as a artifact. The brim looks fairly big and I had originally though it might be an early western, but then I realized that the crown circumference is also smaller, so it may just be a fedora. It has the real early "V" stitching and very wide sweatband. I'm really excited to get this hat in my hands.
