No way I would pay that much for a tie. I thought I was nuts to pay the $125 for ties back in the 80s that had real gold thread running though it in some areas.

And that makes it even better as a tie.
Haband had some of the wildest ties out there. Dali and some CM ties are the exception to the rule though.

You were very lucky, but not all Dalis fall within the same price range. There are rare Dalis ... and then there are the superduper rare ones. Only Dali tie collectors and the dealers who cater to them know which ones are 'gold'.

Here's the gold-painted one. There are two of these birds (ibis?) on the tie. It's a late-50s labeled 'Styled by Rapson' and '24 Karat Gold Golden Touch.'

Those J. Galets are actually quite rare and each one was indeed done by hand---by the artist. That particular subject is rare for him. I have never seen another.
