No...10 1/2 C Had they been a bit larger I would have owned them, the seller had a few nice old shoes, all too small!

Yep. The R.M.S. 'Queen Mary' has on display a poster-sized photo of Churchill visiting the ship. Sure enough, he wore those shoes on board.

On styleforum they are referred to as "lazyman" shoes and are back in popularity and made by the likes of Cleverley.

And I am shocked no one made mention of these gems here, these are from my neck of the woods when I was growing up and I actually recall this shoe store as well.

The original owner of these shoes purchased them a few years before he retired and never wore them, the seller, his daughter were going through a lot of old stuff in the home to clear out upon his death and found these in a box. Gems.

There is a VAST TREASURE TROVE on this thread alone which would easily point someone in the right direction when choosing quality vintage footwear. Between the detailed pictures & the production info, a Lounger SHOULD be able to make a quality ebay selection.

On a side note, Loungers PLEASE stop purchasing the Florsheim shoes with the cloth "Florsheim" tag sewn/ glued onto the footbed. They are the worst of the worst quality-wise. There are literally hundreds of auctions that end everyday with better quality merchandise than that.

You are in fact being critical, however I take no offence as it's a reasonable assumption. Here's my reasoning...they are odd, interesting, and I still got them for half price ($30 shipped). Like I stated previously, I bought them on a whim, a flight of fancy, a wild hair so to speak. They make me giggle.

Ah, but you see that is based on your oppinion that I made a mistake. I am perfectly aware of how to search out and buy good quality shoes. And if ever I have questions I also know I can ask the wonderful experts here such as Marc. So, the answer is there isn't a disconnect I bought them purely for fun.

First, let me apologize. This is why I can't stand the internet. If a statement is spoken, the tone of voice says so much. If not, the words can mean so many things. I did NOT mean to insult your purchase or your sense of taste. If you like the wild style, I'm all for that. On other forums, my "over-the-top" sense of footwear taste has led to much criticism, and I do not want to do this here.

The statement I made above about why Loungers make some of the selections they do still stands, though. After reading this thread alone, members here should have a HUGE advantage over the rest of the ebayers who WANT Quality Vintage, but have no clue what's what.

Sadly, however, I think a lot of this info is being ignored. I'm not concerned about sense of style of the shoes. I AM concerned when I see shoes that are:

1) Totally glued together
2) Use 100% fake plastic leather (or BADLY corrected grain).

The whole point of this site (I thought) was to have respect for and to find the hidden treasures from Long-Gone-Eras where the quality of the materials & construction MUCH EXCEEDS most of what's available today at any price. The BEAUTY of this site is that Members are exposed to info that should enable them to BUY these types of FABULOUS vintage items for very low prices. I simply don't see that enough... at least in the footwear section.

No worries, my friend. They are a 10D. I made a gift of them to a friend who's a 9 1/2D... he loves them so much that he added a Dr. Scholl's footpad & wears thick socks to rock them.

Here they are: a pair of deadstock late 1920s 'Alan McAfee' field boots made for the exclusive 'Alexander & Oviatt' haberdashery in Los Angeles. In their original box. The leather is still perfectly supple.


The original price is still faintly visible on the box's label: $60, a fortune in the late '20s. Note that the tips of the leather boot laces are wrapped with metal wire.

I feel for when it comes to foot size issues. Some of the biggest vintage fanatics I know have tough shoe sizes. My good friend is a 10 1/2E, and a gentleman I get a lot of nice items from is an 11 1/2EE.

Big sizes now, but in vintage terms, they're closer to 14's.
