Wow, people in New York dress poorly.
It seems that overly large, contrasting scarves are the "in" thing as well as wearing mutipule ill-fitting jackets and wrong shoes.
Looks like Johnny Depp in that green fedora.

From this article, it certainly appears that way, although this article seems very skewed in its focus. It's a shame that the only people wearing hats other than ball caps or beanies who get attention from such internet articles/blurbs are so far out there in their attempts to push the boundaries of fashion that they look like they picked out their outfit piecemeal from the thrift-store garbage dumpster. Once upon a time it was no big deal to see people wearing all sorts of different fashionable hats yet still dressing dapper, and now you apparently have to dress like those in the photos (dare I say hipsters most of them) to look cool, according to pop culture, with your hat.

At the same time, from my experience walking through the financial district of San Francisco, there are plenty of examples of well-dressed people wearing fedoras or other more conservative hats too, and I'm sure the same goes for New York City.

I would not tag most of those folks as hipsters, no. Although, it's impossible to judge from merely a single photo.

In any event, what's up with the "sat on" wool felt hats?
