I'll probably get boo'd here, but not much there thrills me.
I'll have to say it might just be timing, but between Aero and GW, I am set for the foreseeable future. Maybe I'm just not stylish enough for them yet lol

So excited to have a Himel Brothers Heron on the way to my house, even if it is just on loan. I contacted Itay-san at Rock-a-Hula in Nagaoka about ordering a Himel and he offered to send me a Heron to check out. I'm admittedly a noob, but from what I've seen this is one of the most attractive jackets around!

Heron pics of Japanase Himel customers' jackets from Itaya's blog.

Both fantastic jackets, is the leather very thick ?
Heavy leather concerns has prevented me from ordering one in the past, with this style I think lighter weights work best.

He uses the same tannery that JC uses in Japan. The seal 16160 that you had would be a good representative of the hide Dave would carry.

I see Himel as another option offering unique vintage styles not offered elsewhere right now...and that's a good thing.

+1!

The numbers I see thrown around for the horsehide that Himel Brothers uses are: 1.2 mm, 3 oz. It is also used by JC, as you mentioned. It's vegetable tanned horsehide from the Shinki Tannery in Kansai, Japan. There is a post at Dave's blog with photos from a trip to the tannery.

The DH jackets are certainly on the higher end of the pricing spectrum, but I haven't seen anyone who does a style similar to this 1929 Heron. If that style is out there, please point me in that direction.

Himel jackets are definitely in the higher tax bracket (eg RMJP), and I bet he'd sell 10x as much if he dropped his price point about 40%, but I cannot knock his collection which I think is outstanding. I think he makes the nicest looking civilian A1 and d pocket on the market (IMO, of course). That said, I can't figure why he's so damn high (tho if the Self Edge kiddos are buying, he's found his market)

I'll post some pics when the loan jacket arrives.

I very much wish he would drop retail prices by 40%! But, then again, I have no idea how possible that is.

I'll throw my earlier question out there again: anyone know of a maker doing a similar design as the DH 1929 Heron?
