I am experiencing super dryness on my face right now! I have heard that lemon juice, baking soda, olive oil etc all really help, but am clueless about how/what to use.
Any advice?
Thanks :D

Water. Lots of water. Thats one of the best things. What is your regime? Perhaps pare down. Also, bathe (use for body and face) with black soap or castle soap. Great stuff :) I'm simple; water, black soap, and some toner after.

Believe it or not, coconut oil can help too. We use it to pop corn at work, and it comes in a solid mass -- and while melting it, I was astonished to discover that a little bit rubbed into my hands works wonders, especially in the winter, when my skin turns into a flaky, dessicated mess.

You can get it in jars at your local co-op, and use it for a lot of things around the house. Makes excellent popcorn, too.

If it is really dry (and you want something natural and aren't opposed to animal products) lanolin cream would work really well. They sell it in the pharmacy and it's used in breastfeeding.

If you use an oil (lanolin, coconut, almond, olive oil) just remember to apply it after you shower to lock the moisture in. Also avoid spending too much time in a too hot shower.

Jojoba oil is wonderful--very light and lovely. It won't irritate your skin or cause breakouts, and you can use it wherever you need moisturization. It's great as a deep conditioning hair treatment, too, and can be used to soften cuticles.

...but if you'd really like to indulge, here's a delicious secret: honey. Not just any honey, but raw (unprocessed, unfiltered, unpasteurized) manuka honey. It's honey made from bees that pollenate the tea tree, and is most often imported from New Zealand. Incidentally, tea tree oil has antiseptic qualities, so this honey acts as a cleanser as well as a humectant, drawing moisture to your skin. Really good stuff. Treat yourself to a honey mask! Your skin will thank you for it. :)

Interesting fact: this honey has such healing properties that it's often used to treat burn victims and as post-operative care for patients to minimize risk of infection and scarring. I suppose this honey officially wins the merit badge for being "the bee's knees". *ahem* Please excuse the pun.

My skin is dry and can get super-dry in the winter. Cleansing at night with the hot towel method and almond oil works wonders. I then moisturise (I use L'Occitane's moisturisers). In the morinng I just use the hot towel on it's own with a little moisturiser.

Keep it simple. The less product you use the better!

My face use to be that way. It was so red that I looked like I had a bad sun burn on my face. That was not the case, I learned as I am getting older my has skin has become very sensetive plus a combonation of dry and oily. The only way I was able to die down the dryness is to use soap free soap. I use Cetaphil soap free soap bars on my face and in the bath. The only lotion that works on my face is Burt's Bee's sensitive daily moisturizing cream during the day and the Burt's Bee's sensitive night cream. I don't use foundation but or powdered blush for blush I use Almays cream blush, helps keep my cheeks moisturized and looking less red.

I also agree with Lady Day drinking water helps too.

Thanks for the tip :D I actually ended up slathering Olive Oil on my face, and it worked a treat. I think I shall have to try
coconut oil, too.

I just started using L'Occitane's foot and hand creams. I love them so far!

L'Occitane is quite pricey but lovely.

If you have flaky patches try using an almond oil and baking powder scrub. It gets rid of the flaky patches and moisturises too - and it's as cheap as chips!

I have a very dry skin so i massage my skin with olive oil for 10 min before bathing, this not only makes my skin texture good but leaves it smooth and soft.

Over the years, my skin becomes dryer and dryer.
All the products against dry skin and all the advice seem to be based upon the premise that dryness is the same as lack of oil. My skin obviously lacks moisture but seemingly does not lack oil. Whenever I use anything oily on my skin, I get loads of pimples. It's so hard for me to find a suitable product, because "for dry skin" products almost always have some sort of oil in the top of the ingredients list. :(
I'm always looking for some nice (and not pricey) gel product or the like, and I'd be happy to know about any home remedies.

Look at your diet. Eat lots of oily fish like wild caught salmon and oils like olive oil. Treating dry skin internally is just as important as treating it externally and I make salmon and olive oil a big part of my diet. Wild caught not farm raised.

I LOVE black soap! My skin (which is often problematic) has cleared up almost 100% since using it.

I'm a huge fan of Grapeseed oil for the body, I often mix a few drops with my lotion so I don't feel slippery all day, and at night I use Acure Argan Oil on my face instead of night cream. I'm becomming a firm believer of putting food grade product on my body as I get older, my make up is still something I wouldn't eat though (not that I use much of it these days) :)

Coconut oil is a miracle! I have eczema and it's helped a great deal with it. Also once a week (or two) I make a hair mask out of it. Glob it into a small dish and melt it in a hot water bath inside a larger bowl (not the microwave or oven!), I leave it on for about 30 minutes, shampoo twice to make sure it's all out and my hair feels wonderful after, it's great for frizzy ends too, however I wouldn't recommend it on bangs... it tends to give an oily appearance.

The other day, after I put on my usual moisture cream, I got a horrible rash - it must have been an allergic reaction. :eeek:
that puzzles me because I've been using that same cream for about 1,5 years now. It was terrible, I looked like a lobster, my face got hot and I even felt a bit dizzy. It took a few hours till my skin got back to normal. Did any of you ladies experience anything like that?

Now, I have to find a new cream - this is very frustrating.

I use coconut oil as well. All over. It has really helped tame my peri-menopausal skin, which is just everywhere due to hormones.
