The only thing that makes the remodel decent is that it 'looks' somewhat period. In that I mean the stone itself was probably added sometime in the 70's to shipboard exterior. Although I agree if you are going to remodel a house try and do it as close to original as possible and not what these idiots did.

I'd guess the stones are original to the house, not an add on. I live in AL not CO, but there are a LOT of homes from the 20s, 30s and 40s with that kind of stone porches and foundations. Site found stone was a waaay cheaper building material than bricks.

Here's how I spent the weekend

Before.....

Some previous tenant had painted the living room this lovely shade of dark brown. It's about the color of a Hershey bar, about 3 hours after it was eaten.

After....

I'm slowly trying to get the mid-century vibe back to the house.

Actually, the stone is probably original. There are quite a few houses from the 1880s to turn of the century with this indigenous stone. There is a nice Victorian a couple of blocks over, complete with turret finished in this stone. Very striking!

Today I finally got around to another little item that needed some t.l.c. at our new old house

It's far from where it needs to be, but at least the waterfall is working, and there's a few fish to eat the mosquito larvae.

I must admit, it was the envy of a couple of fellow loungers new koi themed Hawaiian shirts (you know who you are.... Mike and Harv) that partly motivated me. Well, that and the mosquitos.

Thank you Stray Cat.

Here's a better shot of the fish. Just plain old goldfish. Koi were $6 - $8 each, these guys were 10 for $1. Might get some koi after I see how they hold up to the local wildlife.

A very common sight in the inner city areas here in California such as South Central L.A.. They put stucco on these old houses because it requires less maintenance. That and I'm guessing that it gives the house a more formidable appearance.

It's supposed to look a bit "Santa Fe" and fit into the Spanish Mission vibe of SoCal. Of course it is none of the above.
