I'm glad your friend had a good send off Johanna. Thinking of you.

Lizzie Maine, the house settlement must be soon, hoping it goes off without a hitch.

As for me, this evening will be a quiet one. I'll do a bit of a tidy up & make a start on dinner. There's a severe weather warning for gale force winds tonight, so hopefully the trees in our backyard won't get blown over (it's happened before).

Had the funeral today... very beautiful, nice weather, and with wonderful food.
A good way to send someone off.
I hope you're doing well.

As for me, this evening will be a quiet one.
We all need those (sometimes even more than we think we do).

...
Last night I had a change of scenery and a change of style.
After a long while (much longer than I'm willing to admit) I went out - with a certain someone.. that just might become a Someone with a capital "S". :D

This is Der Tag -- the closing is at 2pm. So far everything's worked out, and in seven hours it'll be all over. I got the final settlement paperwork yesterday and the total mortgage/property tax payment will be about sixty dollars more than I'm paying in rent. Now all I have to do is live to be 81 so I can pay it off.

Last night was the opening of the great and gala event of our local summer, the Maine Lobster Festival. Having long since eaten my fill of lobster -- it's cheaper than hamburger right now -- I made do with sending one of the kids down to the festival grounds to bring me back a hunk of fried dough to eat at my desk. Last night's takings are covered with powdered sugar, but if they ask me any questions at the bank, I will disclaim any knowledge.

Tonight after my daughter is going to bed I am straightening up the house. My absolute low point was this morning when I sat on the couch for two hours and started to look up survival rates for the type of breast cancer I had, where all my positive lymph nodes drained from (checking for metastasis), and then finally giving myself a lymph node check. So I gave myself a pep talk and got off the computer. I told myself that I'm still alive (unlike my dear friend, who died out of the blue) and that I'm not going to get those two hours back, ever, and that was enough of that.

I'm cleaning the damned house so I can get back to living in it, rather than moping around. It's fallen into disrepair over the past week, and it's ending tonight.

It's completely normal to feel that way after a series of upsetting events. You've been through the emotional equivalent of a tornado. It will take some time to pick up the shingles. I'm glad you have ways of keeping busy and making your own, and your family's daily life better. Thinking lots of good thoughts.

Well, today was the first day off I've had in over a month and I spent it painting. Over the years I've been renting this house I've gotten sicker and sicker of the dreary off-white paint in the living room and hallways, so now that I own the place, painting is the first order of business.

I have a Sherwin Williams Paint and Style Book for 1940 -- an enormous spiral-bound album with decor suggestions and actual paint chips -- and was able to match the specific blue I wanted for the living room with a modern Sherwin Williams color, "Resolute Blue," and with a little shoving of furniture and a lot of sweat I have finished repainting the walls. The hallway was a bit more complicated -- the buff shade I wanted from the SW book wasn't available in any modern color at SW, but I found an exact match at Lowes, in Valspar "Frankenscence." That has gone up as well, except for the part of the stairwell where I'm going to have to drag an extension ladder in from the garage and set it up on the stairs. That will have to wait until I am not exhausted.

Tonight I'm going to take a hot shower, wash my hair, change the bed, and listen to Charlie McCarthy.

My dear sheeplady, my mother is a 20 year survivor of breast cancer. I send you nothing but good wishes, healing light, and prayers!

Tonight I will be watching a program on WWI. Thinking about my dear grandfather who was drafted but missed going over as the war ended shortly after. Somewhere I have an amazing photo of him in his uniform.

Hello Ladies,

LizzieMaine, Congrats on taking ownership of your home. That Blue looks really pretty (yes I looked it up), would love to see a photo when your done redecorating.

Sheeplady, My deepest condolences to the sudden loss of your friend and so sorry on having to battle cancer. Your are in my thoughts and prayers.

As for me, I have no plans for this evening other than stuffing my face and perusing the Fedora Lounge =p

Day off from work today, so I only had to go in for a couple of hours to deal with various loose ends. Rest of the day's been spent laying a new tile floor in my kitchen -- the closest thing I could find to the old asbestos-asphalt tiles was Armstrong commercial vinyl tile, so I got five cartons of those and a bucket of mastic and have been forging ahead. About 2/3 done now, and hopefully can finish it up in dibs and dabs over the next week.

So tonight I'm going to take a long hot bath to get all the mastic off my hands and arms and go to bed early. Sleep is very much coveted these days.

There's a scheduled power cut for the next 3 hours so I'm listening to my battery powered radio (Radio National, live broadcast of general business in the lower House of Parliament).
I probably shouldn't be using up my 3G allowance posting this :)

Last night I started crocheting a bunch of preemie and micro-preemie hats to be donated to a NICU up in Canada. Three years ago a good friend's nephew was born needing a new heart. He passed while on the transplant list a few weeks later. She is coming to visit me next week, and will take the donation back home with her. I do it to remember and honor Kai.

I love being able to crochet hats and sell on Etsy, but nothing is so satisfying as being able to make a tiny hat that will go to help a little one stay warm when they can't be held by their parents.

LizzieMaine: congrats on taking possession of your house. Good luck with the rennovations.

SheepLady: I'm so sorry to read about your woes. My thoughts are with you. I know 3 breast cancer survivors, so brave heart!

It's almost been 1 year since my bilateral carpal tunnel surgery. Now that I'm up to speed on Dragon software for work, I have the physical ability to spend a little time after work on the computer. Tonight is Web Wednesday, when I poke around the interwebs and see what's going on.

We are going to the new Indian restaurant in town with some friends tonight. I can't wait to try it and I'm glad that we're starting to get a larger diversity of food around here!

Sheeplady, I'm late to this but condolences on your friend. It's tough losing someone suddenly.

Lizzie, glad you closed on your house.

TheSwingingBee, Indian food is yummy. I'm fond of meat samosas myself.

Me? Coloring my hair. Using hi lift to remove the drab and will be coloring it pastel light blue, a demi permanent azure color. It'll last a few weeks.
