Is Christmas Ruined Forever?

It wasn't ruined at my house either.
Despite the fact I decorated the tree in the most minimal fashion, it was a sign that my recent job change has kept me too busy to drag boxes out this year. [huh]
We saved up for a big ticket item, that has yet to work out (waiting on the right combo of price and mileage), so one of us didn't buy presents. However, Father Christmas came to our house bringing a few gifts for my wife, and a few gifts I couldn't do without, given to me by each of the dogs. :p While a new bath mat and Calphalon non-stick frying pan aren't on everyone's list, it was greatly appreciated. Plus the deal was too good to pass up. ;)
Still searching several online sites for the big ticket item, plus I have an uncle looking as well since he's in the business.
And no James it's NOT a Cadillac. They are practically giving those away, at least where I live.

Take advantage of stupid people then and buy the Cadillac.

One of my 2 Boston Terriers died at 10:30 on Christmas morning. He was over 10-years old and declining in health but did not expect him to go this soon.

Anyway, not a great Christmas this year.....

Christmas was fine for me until this morning, when my deranged sister went on a rampage. Tis the season.

Ms. Lizzie... in our family, we have an old saying that 'it's not the holidays until someone cries'... the tone was set back before Thanksgiving this year...

HAR!!! Family... we are supposed to love them...

Christmas Magic?

To the OP... your little one will have a life time to face the reality of this harsh world... my best memories are of the Christmases Past that were presented by my Mom and Dad... and the Magic of the Season that they helped to create. That 'Magic' faded a bit when the reality of getting older and realizing that there wasn't a Santa Claus, but returned with a vengeance when my little ones arrived.

It is kind of like the kid in 'The Polar Express'... I had a phase in my Life where my sleigh bell stopped ringing... it started ringing again when I saw how my childrens' eyes lit up on Christmas morning...

Christmas is still one of the most magical times of the year for me...

I LOVE it!!!

In Europe, St Nicklaus Day is always Dec 6th. Kids leave a shoe next to the fireplace and in the morning a gift is in it.

This just jumped out at me... my Mom was raised in a small German settlement in Illinois... Mascoutah... she would tell me that they would go to church on Christmas Eve... and that they would put wooden shoes (sounds Dutch... no?) on the door step... and that when they returned, St. Nicholas would have already visited... there would be goodies inside the shoes...

That explains why Father Christmas woke me up wanting to know if I had some Neosporin
for a slight burn.

Phew I did that and was still on his 'nice' list, I am a very lucky chap ;-)

This may be too late, but ask your sister if she would like to play
tennis with me.. This way she can take all the frustrations, anxieties or whatever
& apply it instead to a little fuzzy yellow ball. This game has a calming effect.
I don't know your sister but from what I have read of what you have posted, I believe
you are a nice person that doesn't deserve this especially around the season.

Happy New Year to you & your mother.

In response to the OP subject (not to take away from you lovely people afterward):

I grew up knowing Santa wasn't real in the entity that most know him as. My parents felt that it was wrong to lie to me about some fictional character being real. That never once messed me up. We still did the cookie/milk tradition, but I saw it as a fun tradition. As I got older I had learned that Saint Nicholas, of many saints, were real, though the two Santa and Father Christmas are patterned after specific men. As a result, I have always celebrated the symbol that Santa has today, and holds for me, as well as having celebrated the life of the two men who were in fact real. I think children should know that the man from Lapland, Finland gave out toys to children, and this should be a lesson of character, generosity and compassion to others.

If Christmas has lost any sentiment at all, it's because not everyone focuses on what really matters. Though I've seen more wrong, such as splitting between blaming commercialism vs "the meaning of Christmas," when I just focus on what it means to me. While Christmas has many inspirations, and often gets mistaken for Yuletide, the Christmas we have today has a larger meaning.

I am half Filipina, and always celebrate Noche Buena with my family, which is Christmas Eve dinner. However, it's bigger than that. It's a tradition that keeps Christmas Eve as an important evening for family. Christmas day is for extended family and friends. I enjoy both traditional western dishes as well as Filipino holiday food. For me, the sentiment is not lost. What's most important is what we make Christmas mean to us. If we share that with others, perhaps the general public's sentiments will change for the better.

Golf is better for relieving frustration et al. You hit a small ball with a long club making a satisfying THWACK sound with a swish sound as the club cuts the air. :p

With all respect Mr. jamespowers, I believe you meant...

Golf is better for "me" for relieving frustration et al.

Based on your avatar...you look like you have great coordination & skills
to justify your remark.

As for me...I am a klutz...

It is very frustrating for me to hit a teeny weeny ball with a long club.
Unless listening to the swishing sounds of the long club passing near the ball
or the thumping dull thud of the long club pounding the ground. And if by luck,
I should through some miracle connect with the smirking little ball snickering at me...
& send it out into who knows where....which by now I am too tired-never-mind-frustrated
to go looking for it...is considered relaxing.
Now if I can use a tennis racket....mayhaps I might be able to give it a good twack on the sweet spot.
I think...I have started to clebrte the noow yeer to sooon, ...excuse me ...while I :puke:

Happy New Year !:cheers1::cheers1::clap2::rockon::cheer2::horn::horn:

Besides ...I don't want to frustrate further a possible tennis date with a deranged sister from Maine...but I haven't heard a reply so far...I think I'll go for another drink...:D

You just need practice.I still do some of that stuff too-----when I lose my concentration. You have to just follow the club path and watch it hit the ball.No problem from there.
Come on out.I’ll teach you how.:p If the course is open tomorrow, I am there. :p
