That's really too bad. I appreciate how blessed I am with this generation of a loving family(although not perfect) that I now have and the ones that raised me and are now gone. Miss them very much. Especially during this time of year. However their joy of giving and special Christmas celebrations was passed down to me..then my children and now eight grandchildren who seem to have a sense of similar awareness and gratitude. Perhaps somewhat unique in todays world..I suppose.

So I got into an argument with my mother the other day over how my wife and I want to teach our son about Christmas. My wife and I both believe that my son should grow up knowing that Santa Claus is no more real a person than say, Spider Man. She believes that Christmas won't be as enjoyable for him if he knows that Santa doesn't exist. I'm sory but I just don't think that's true.

I'm well aware that we have a long road ahead of us when he starts going to school, but we stand by our decision to teach him that Santa is not the "reason for the season". We want to teach him that Christmas is not about getting gifts and things like that, but rather it is about family and appreciating what you have.

That's not to say that he won't be getting presents because I know I love spoiling the heck out of the little guy, but I've felt for far too long that Christmas has become far too commercialized and people have lost the true meaning of this time of the year.

Am I completely crazy by trying to change things up or am I the only one who feels like Christmas has lost its sentiment?

Ya know, I wonder when i see things like this. Why would anyone want a kid to miss all the wonder and magic and thrill of something like Santa Claus? Have you ever seen a small child look up at someone dressed as Santa? Its the most beautiful thing you'll ever see, all the shock and wonder and suspense with the wide open eyes and gaping mouth. And that child will grow up to believe Santa Claus really exists - and he does. He exists in the heart of everyone who is full of hope and kindness and charity. Santa Claus lives in the heart of every good person in one form or another.

For me, Christmas is about it's namesake. Anything that significantly detracts from that is, to my mind, an infringement of the truth and is to be eschewed. However, that's not to say we cannot enjoy what it offers, the festivities it brings and charitable dispositions of people. My children really appreciate why Christmas is important. Stripped of superficial platitudes, ceaseless commercialism and cloying sentiments, it truly becomes a treasure. The Santa Claus fable is merely a miniscule part of it and nothing could make me happier.

Talking about scare to behave. I would have loved to show you what makes me into the Christmas spirit; two wonderful Christmas-illustrated russian lullabies that used to be on youtube. Unfortunately they are gone and instead this one turned up. Instead of wonderful illustrations this one have been translated - I get the chills!

These two will do for the Christmas spirit
