The multi-panel Irvin's in pretty good nick - it's either a size 4 or 5, as it fits me nicely. It's the model my own one is based on. Out of all my jackets, it's the one that I've had people come up to me in the street and ask me where they could get a similar one.

Something seems to be stirring at AL. I see it's returned to its old web design with the Schuh-esque logo...

Was that a style they used before? I never looked at it way back.
All I can see now is the homepage which is taking forever to load. I tried to click several links, but got the warning that 'The certificate for this page has expired', so I gave up. After all, I don't wanna get a virus or something. What's the story? Have they given up on the SB rebranding already? Or is this a massive Orwellian revision in progress?

FB page is covered in 'Simmons Bilt Leather Clothing Company' logos, but page is still called 'Alexander Leathers'.

Seriously, I'd have expected SA to be rich enough to pay someone to do all this properly [huh]

The page that came up was the very early one, which used the same font and logo style as SA's old company. It could be there just a place holder until the new site is up, though if it had been me, I would have done this overnight, rather than when people were clicking in.

Ok, so at some point they're going to re-open the site properly as Simmons Bilt which they are touting themselves as on Alexander Leathers FB page. Still, yeah, this should have all been done in private, and rolled out in a seamless and glossy manner. But hey, that 'I made a blog with a template' thing could be charming...don't know about the terrible green and black though.

Hidetanner, if you're reading this, tell them that I'll invoice them if they take up my suggestions. Marketing strategy consultation ain't cheap!

Yes, looks like a placeholder, although who does that anymore?? If they can't make the changes off-line like the rest of the world does, then they'd be better off with a "check back later" page than this.

Funnily enough, they did exactly the same with the Alexander Leather Japan website, which looked like an old ZX Spectrum loading page, but that never came to anything. I think the failure to persuade Hiro to jump ship from Aero put paid to that expedition.

Really?
Well then, let me take this opportunity to offer my services!
I can build a Japanese language website (at native speaker level) for 'Simmons Bilt', at very, errr, 'reasonable' rates*

*Available on request.

I didn't want to say that the site looked really 80's, coz I haven't been paying much attention to common culture back home. I just assumed that an 80's style website for repro vintage clothing was kind of a 'trendy' hipster thing.[huh]

It probably is somewhere. Here in London, the "We're wearing / eating / drinking/ listening to / watching eighties stuff. It's, like, rubbish. That's like, high-larious, yah?" end of the hipster thing never seemed to me to be the same end as those into the vintage stuff, but who knows? I hear the eighties kids have moved on, so... [huh] I suppose that I, a fat, middle-aged guy, don't get what these kids are into is part of the point.

It's up there with IMHO....

...which more often than not should be read as IMFNSHAADAO.... ;)

Sheepskins in general really do seem to catch people's attention (in a good way) perhaps moreso than even a really cool leather.

Jinkies, I'd not heard they'd planned that. They really must have thought they could swing it, too, if they were prepping to put the website up before they got the 'no'.

Back to the future, then? lol I guess this is an example as to why you either do these things at night or off-line...

'A chance meeting between Sandy Alexander and convicted criminal Will Lauder'. There, I've fixed that for them.

Interesting that the 'About Us' page no longer features Steve Toohey's name.

It's shame that they didn't post the original rant from Will that lasted barely a day on the page. I'd love to read that again.
