The Man Purse Aka. THE MURSE YES or NO ?

I have been having a bag dilemma and decided to do something about it. Recently I put money down on a Man Purse aka. The Murse. I don't care what people say. I live in hot weather years round so I don't have access to deep jacket pockets anymore.

I need to carry :

A cellphone
Sunglasses
Cigars/Cutter
Wallet
Gum or Mints
Lighter
Reading Glasses.

I can't possibly fit all of this into my pockets.

I used to wear a pimped out fanny pack by Maxpedition around my shoulders. I am actually quite proud of it since I built it piece by piece and it is my own design. However it makes too strong of an impression when I am walking down the street. Especially in Tijuana where I spend half my time.

Anyway last week I ditched the Tactical Pack for something completely different. Here is the pic. Also included are two leather mini saddle type messenger bags sold in Tijuana for $22 and a refurbished COACH in Black that I will MURSE with a more dressy look...Blazer/Travel Etc.

MAN UP GENTLEMEN and expose your MURSE !

What about a classic leather briefcase?

I like the idea but do you really want to lug that with you when you go to a movie or window shopping on a sunday...or better yet to the gym ?

It needs to be practical and fit in with who you are and what you do for a living.

My father for example could get away with bringing a briefcase to Madison Square Garden :)

Nope! Not a good idea, and even more so in T.J. I note nothing stated about carrying a weapon, so I have to assume you are not armed? To me for anyone to carry something that sticks out like a spot light, you are asking for someone to want to rob you for it.

That could be trouble on a severe windy day in the winter or course. A fairly "shriveling" ordeal! Haha!
Where I lived in East London is a hospital that deals solely with mental health issues. It's often been said that those with less grey matter, make up for it with trouser furniture.
One incredibly, bitter cold January, Tina & I were off out to some gala or other, our route took us past that hospital. Walking along the sidewalk, in our opposite direction, was a patient from that hospital. I knew he was a patient, for despite the cold, all he wore was his shoes. Everything else was neatly folded over his arm. And that trouser furniture, cold or no cold, it was enormous. I looked at Tina: "Yes you did see a naked man," she chuckled, adding, "hung like a donkey." "You forgot the sigh, dear," I quipped, "I don't know," she added with a note of concern, "if I want my eyes to water, I'll see an optician."

Absolutely, yes. I've carried a bag for over twenty years now out of necessity; very common here or in any city I've encountered where people use public transport rather than drive. Never had a problem. My choice of daily carry bag varies depending on what I'm doing, but for just going out and about and carrying the sort of stuff the OP mentions, I find a Brady fishing bag most effective. Triple layered canvas and plenty waterproof, doesn't have the more formalised loo of a briefcase (though I have one of those for the office too), and as it's canvas, markedly cheaper than a similar-quality leather option. www.bradybags.co.uk I think the best option for a general purpose manbag is the Ariel Trout model.

Those Brady bags look great Edward.

My current one is a Billingham camera bag - perfect for a 13" MacBook, iPad and some other stuff.

If I wanted a more purse like bag, I'd just get a smaller version.

WOW those bags are SUPER classy ! I want one.

I wish they had a photo of someone wearing both the large and small Ariel Trout model to compare sizing. I am not good at figuring it out just by numbers alone.

Nice Post Amigo.

* I really like the SEVERN model as well.

Thank You

As a rough guide, if all you want to carry is a book, maybe a small tablet, phone, coke bottle and a pen or two, maybe an pod, the smaller one should be fine; if you want something more akin to a 'small briefcase', I'd go up a size to the larger one. I've carried a 10" Surface just fine in my small bag, though you can't fit much else in once there's it and the power cable.

Thanks.

It's a done deal. Those bags are superb.

I've got lower back issues so I am sticking to the smaller version Navy or Black. I just turned a friend on to the website who is a photographer. She will want one as well.

Much appreciated.

I really like this forum !
