What is your favorite hat crease?

All this diamond talk prompted me to re-crease my Heritage Grade Camp Draft in Moonstone last night. When I get my BGCD back from Texas Hatters, the last non-diamond hold-out will fall!

It's going to be stiffer than you like. Maybe you can work all that out before creasing & wearing it. On mine it was the stiffness of the brim mostly that I objected to, but I like the brim pretty flat anyway so no real problem.

yeah ... it was an impulse buy for sure ... a tiny fragment of me regrets it ... but I love the look of the hat

I've seen some examples of fedoras in old movies and photos where the front brim is angled sharply down, like Spencer Tracy's in "Libeled Lady." What is the best way to achieve this? Hold the brim in downward position and steam? Hold it in upward position, steam and snap down when dry? Other?

I'm not sure, but I think it may involve buying a hat that does that.

Both of my Heritage Grade CD hats (moonstone and silverbelly) were stiffer than the other two Deluxe CDs. The SB has become very soft, but I wear it more than any others. The moonstone brim is still somewhat stiff, but I have worn it less than the other three (I'm hoping the new crease will change that, like it did for the SB).

It helps, but most hats will be responsive. Perhaps @Miamibruno will weigh in. He's a master of that look.

I agree with Bob's comment. Hold the brim in the position you want and apply steam. It might take more than one treatment, but you should eventually achieve the shape you want. I've used distilled water in a spray bottle to convince the brims on a couple of my hats to have more "snap" than they'd have otherwise, but I haven't tried anything quite as "severe" as in your photo example.

...I dove right in on changing the crease on it after working on the first. I went from not being fond of the hat to being in love. It's like I bought a brand new hat that I will wear often! So, thank you much ladies and gentlemen especially Moon for starting the bashing video thread. Here are a few before and after shots. The center crease and round top pictures are the original hat. My picture editing leaves a lot to be desired.

Much better! The new crease suits you far more than the original. Hell, I even like the feather! Nice work! Funny how a simple thing like changing the crease can take a hat from "meh" to "favorite".
