Sorry I havent been able to post in a while but have been very busy. I hope to start posting all the time again. But anywhay, anybody here like the color of fawn for akubra because i really do. I like how in different lighting the hat/color looks a little different. kinda like how the bash to an open crown hat changes slightly all the time. They both give a hat its personality, if that even makes sense to anyone.
So if you have a fawn colored akubra please post pictures or share your thoughts.

Which fawn color do you like? Regency fawn? Which particular hat? Fedora?
I'd like to see some Akubra pics also. I'm especially interested in pics of the Regency Fawn fedora.

Just a suggestion...if you post pictures to illustrate colors, please do use the color balance features of your digital camera to adjust it until it looks right to your eye. Really, even on commercial websites, you see color that you know isn't right and different views are often all over the map. It's a trial and error thing, but you can get it to represent what your eye sees.

For perspective, the jacket is russet-brown in color.

I posted some pictures of the heritage fawn Fed Deluxe IV that I received on Monday. The color is pretty much accurate by my monitor. I took the pictures of the hat without my mug in them in daylight with a bit of fill flash to knock down the shadows. I took some other pics in brighter daylight with the hat sitting on a gray leather chair and the hat looked a lot grayer in that light.

The hat is darker than I expected it to be, but I really like it. It's sitting on my head now.

Hi, I'm new to this site. I've been lurking, following a number of discussions and learning much from all of you experts.

So yes indeed what is the deal with all of the Akubra "fawn" colours?

I'm struggling, without success, to figure out what it all means.

I have seen at least the following:
Fawn
Taupe Fawn
Acorn Fawn
Heritage Fawn

(and I've seen just "Taupe")

Since the photos posted above are dead links (they don't show up for me, anyhow) it would be extremely useful if someone could post photos of some of these various Fawn hats side-by-side in the same photo, so that their differences can be seen.

Another thing, I asked David Morgan about the differences between Nullarbor Tan and Heritage Fawn. They told me that Heritage Fawn is the darker of the two. What's odd is that I've seen dozens of photos of each (but never together in the same photo) and Heritage Fawn looks lighter.

Anytime you're looking at colors on anything but the object of your desire right in front of you, there is a good chance that accuracy will be questionable. This, for instance, goes as far as far as real, in-you-hands, automobile brochures, as well. The colors just don't appear as they do on the final product.

There are an almost infinite nuanced shades of color that a camera, and then a computer, may not get just right.

So what does that all mean? Take any pictures with a grain of salt and hope for the best.

I wouldn't be surprised if the varying shades didn't come from different batches of felt that absorbed the dye in different ways. Just a guess.

Heartily agree. There is something in how the fur felt reflects light that it can be (in person) multiple shades depending on the light source, then when you add in camera, computer monitor you can see why it is so confounding.
I have a complete set of felt sample swatches from Winchester and sometimes the finished hat does not really match the actual felt swatch I have in my hand.

Thanks for all your insights.

It's a bit depressing, not knowing the shade of a hat until you have it in your hands. For me it means not until I've paid for it, mostly. We have the Village Hat Shop around an hour away. I went there and they had a few Stetson and Akubra hats to hand, but their colours were very limited.

It would be of help to see some side-by-side photos of the various Akubra fawns just to get a basic idea.

Thanks! Richard

Tawny Fawn Akubra Fed IV on the left, Taupe Fawn Akubra Campdraft on the right.

For direct sunlight at mid-day, the colors are fairly accurate on my monitor. The Tawny Fawn is a lighter color with a hint of a warmer/more golden hue that become more obvious depending on lighting conditions, while the Taupe Fawn is darker (what I consider a true mid-brown) with a more neutral hue. Between the two I prefer the Tawny Fawn, but they're both good colors that can be worn quite casually.
