If it was me I’d be thinking ‘score’. How does it fit?

If you want to return it just open a dispute. I’d keep it or sell it myself.

Hi Mich, I didn't expect it to be like new with just a it of patina, but there again I didn't expect it to be coming apart at the seams either. Also I'm not sure it is a genuine Real McCoy's the made in the UK label seems ominous. The jacket is too small on me anyway so I'll have to move it on one way or another, preferably returning it to the sender.

Is it the missing stitches or the fact that it doesn’t fit then that really bothers you? You didn’t mention the fit issue in your first post.

Sorry I think the seller is in good faith here and it also seems to me you had a decent deal.

Thanks everyone for the replies. I'll open a dispute over Ebay and see what happens. I am not hunting for an excuse to return it because it doesn't fit, I knew it would be a gamble but I thought if it didn't fit I could just relist and get at least close to my money back. If I sold a jacket to someone I would definitely mention it if there were issues with the seams. Aero leather has a lifetime guarantee on their stitching so seams wearing out on a jacket of RMs quality must be pretty unusual. I don't think broken seams can be thought of as normal patina. If I relist it for sale mentioning the issues I doubt I'll get anywhere near what I paid for it and that's why I want to return it.

That's interesting about the RM connection with the UK, I know they have a shop here, but did they ever manufacture jackets here?

I spent some time studying the photos and reading the listing and I think the buyer has a valid gripe here. There is no mention of stitches missing on the pockets nor on the sleeves and it is not easy to spot these defects from the photos either.

ebay will automatically sides with the buyer on an item not as described case. It happens instantaneously. So long as you don't slice the jacket with a box cutter, or rip or in half, you'll get your $ back with no issue.

Doesn't really need to be an 'not as described' case these days. eBay is more or less forcing sellers to accept returns (within 14 days IIRC) no matter the reason. I recently needed to return an item, and gave the reason as 'changed my mind'... despite the seller stating 'No Returns' in the listing. Indeed, I did change my mind, and in fact contacted the seller informing them this not long after the sale, BEFORE they shipped. The seller chose to refuse my request, and ship to me anyway. I was immediately granted a return with a return label (which I paid for), with no need to contact the seller for approval. All I had to do was open the return, wait for the item, and ship it right back.... The seller really had no choice but to issue a refund to avoid further issues from eBay.

Sorry, I have to side with the seller as well. Used jackets are used jackets and I know I must exercise caveat emptor when shopping for them. I'm not particularly into that flight jacket look so I can't speak to what kind of deal you got, but from what others are saying you got a steal. I'd invest in repairing the stitching and/or sell it for what I paid and be done with it.

That being said, the Bay almost always sides with the buyer no matter the issue so you could probably get your money back by jumping through a few hoops. But that policy is precisely why I don;t sell on that site anymore.

Take it up with eBay... ;) It's their rules and policy, not mine. I could have been a prick like many out there, and opened a false 'not as described' claim. In that case, the seller would have paid the return shipping + eaten their original shipping cost to me. I told the truth and followed eBay's rules, including paying my own return shipping + eating the shipping cost of the item to me.. I have had similar requests to cancel orders as a seller myself in the past, and while I may not have liked it, did cancel the sales, issued refunds, and relisted the items.

Normally who doesn’t accept returns are private trying to move on used stuff and who have little time to making trips back and forth from the post office. I’m surprised this behaviour is ok for ebay. If I say I don’t accept returns and the item is as described why should I take it back if you change your mind? Buy from a shop!

I understand that buy it now and second chance offers are returnable within14 days if it was a ‘business’ seller on eBay UK. I wonder if eBay will use the same rule if requested against a private seller? Does anyone have experience of this?

I suppose not because you can clearly select “no returns accepted” as a private seller.

How so? As I posted, it's eBay's rules, not mine. I'm certainly not disclosing things that most members there are not already aware of. I have been burned before by false claims made by buyers when I was the seller over the past 18 years as a member there, and dodgy sellers who actually did NOT describe the items well in their listing. Personally, I wouldn't lose any sleep if eBay would bar it's online doors tomorrow... ;)
