It's a 1953 Sears Converto in steer hide. Also came in black. It was made for a couple of years but shoppers just found it too unusual and it was discontinued in May 1955.

Only joking. I've got no idea. Interesting jacket

A number of manufacturers made similar ‘long motorcycle jackets’ I had a similar jacket made by Schott in the 60’s same basic shape and mouton collar but different pockets. Mine was a 631ms. The pic is a screen capture from the Schott nyc forum from when Gail identified it for me.
Sadly the stitches fell to bits when I washed it. I’ve kept the zip though.
