Wish i could do a little more with the brim on this but it's gotten so soft over the years and quite substantial felt, this is about all it will hold w/o adding stiffener.

No need to change a thing, that Nutria is a beauty. I love that liner! The boots are beautiful also, the grain is so nice.

Such a nice hat. Does the felt have a mellow green tint or is it just my monitor?

That's a fair assessment, handsome. In some light it will show that and others it just glows gold.

Thanks, Dd. Really enjoyed the show you and HJ put on. Reminds me; I've got a Deputy Sheriff in I need to shape up and get out in the wild.

It's tough stuff!

Couldn't scuff it with a #2 ba***rd.

Need some input here on my latest black Borsalino project. I wanted to make a fedora out it but the 3 1/4 wide brim proportion to the crown height is just too much for my taste. I can very easily fix that by trimming the brim down to 2 3/4. But, I lose the stitched brim edge if I do that. My other option is to make a Western out of it if want I to keep the brim treatment. Here's an idea of what it would look like if I choose to go western with this. Nothing's set in stone yet. I put a quick and dry creased make shift cattleman in the crown and did a quick brim shaping just to get an idea of what it may look like if I choose go Western with it. Any thoughts, ideas?

Then again, it's not every day you see a Borsalino Western, although I've seen a couple.

I say it looks perfect as a western! The westerns I wear the most have 3"-3 1/4" brims. I think they look more "dress western", than cowboy. The brim treatment is a plus!

I also think it makes a great dress western hat Terry. Just think about that: a Borsalino dress western! And you wear it well, too.

Looks pretty darn good as is, besides, don't you have enough 2 3/4" brimmed, teardropped fedora conversions ?

It looks great as a western, Terry! I never would have thought I’d be saying this, but you’ve hit on the perfect solution. Wether a cattleman or a center dent or...? I think it looks great and you already have a similar black Borsalino as a fedora so why not have this as a western? I can’t wait to see the finished hat!

Thanks for the input guys. I think you all convinced me. I believe I'll make it a Western and save the brim treatment!
Late post, but I agree with the others. I have a nice light gray Borsa that looks best with a cattleman crease due to the wider brim. I think a Borsa Western is snazzy.

View attachment 143011 Hey Terry:
Here’s what a big floppy Borsalino looks like as a Western. It just didn’t look right as a fedora so i put a kinda Gus in it. I think it looks ok. It has a stitched brim edge as well.
Be well and good luck with the project.
Bowen
Ps: it’s got enough for a curl too.
Looks like the same brim edge stitching mine has. Almost the same hat as mine except for the bow treatment. I want to try and find some black 3/8 thin ribbon for mine if I can.

Lookin' good there, Bowen.

Late 1960's - 1970's era Stetson 4X Skinny ribbon with early Last Drop stencil liner. With kicks. Don't know the name for the color but I would call it wheat or putty.
