Nicely restyled and stylishly worn, Georg. Do you have photos of it pre-restyled? Think you're right about the date. I thought you were more a 56. A 58 Borsa is more my size. Just saying [emoji4] [emoji6].

The ebay seller advertised it as a bowler/derby, but it was actually a semi-stiff open crown. Unfortunately I didn't take a "before" photo.
I am quite sure it was orginally a Lobbia with their typical center-dent; like often seen with other Borsalinos of this period.
My size range is noted in my signature :)

Borsalino Gulaela in Nero. Size 57, with the brim at 6cm and the crown at 10,5cm at the center dent. I have a few Gulaela hats, but this is the first in the Qualitá Extra Superiore. Weighs only 118 grams. Interesting is the "exportazione vietata" (export forbiddden) on the sweatband. First time I've seen this.

Do you realize how many pms you're going to get on that one, Stefan?

Nice find and nice buy.

Is "Gulaela" really the model name? I thought the name(s) at the bottom of these kind of tags are always color(s); either single color or felt+ribbon colors.
What if there are two names at the bottom?
Which is then model and which color?

This is my understanding.
Left is felt color.

Middle is ribbon color if different than felt color. If it is the same no middle word.

Right is model descriptor.

Left + Middle + Right?
I have several Borsalinos with this kind of tag; none have three names on them, two are the most.
Quite often the middle name is missing meaning the ribbon and felt are the same color. Often there is a dash in place of the middle name. Again, this is my understanding. Others may have a better explanation.

Example:
Left is Color: Lupo
Middle is Ribbon Color: not listed so Lupo
Left is Model: Nizzo

Another example:
Left is Color: Caffe
Middle is Ribbon Color: not listed ie dash so Caffe
Right is Model: Ecosca

Three word example:
Left is Color: Carla
Middle is Ribbon Color: Elefante
Right is Model: Faunosca

I just received the Borsalino Bogart and am thoroughly delighted with it. The color is called caribou, which is like taupe. It has a 2 1/2'' brim and a rather tall but open crown, which allows for adjustability.
I've owned about 5 new Borsalinos and would say this is the best made in terms of quality. I would say it's about medium weight felt. It comes in a beautiful display box too! I see that they are introducing a sand colored version but I don't think they have made it to the US yet.

Thank you for the examples Bill. First time I recall seeing a Borsalino Tag with three names on it.

This leads me to a further question:
Shouldn't / wouldn't the model name correspond with the form number (upper left)?
i.e. Ecosca = 1528
I have an Ecosca at home; I will check it's form number later this evening.

Very nice.
I have a few Stetsons in "Caribou".
First time I hear Borsalino uses the this color name.

Bill your explanation deserves nine out of ten :) There is only this small mistake, the rest is perfect.
Lupo is the color. c. is cinta=ribbon, so the color of the ribbon is Nizza I presume and not Nizzo. in this case no name of the type of hat. It could happens by the way your examples are perfect;)
Gulaela is the name (no meaning in italian language neither in Alessandria dialect) of the type of lobbia

Thank you for your knowledgeable input, Daniele.
Can I conclude that the names at the bottom right of old Borsalino tags are always the model name?
How about the numbers at the upper left? They seem to be a form or style number (maybe just the felt) and do they correspond to the model names?
best
Georg
