How do folks react to your hat wearing?

My wife, who can be pretty blase about my hats, reacted quite genuinely positively when she turned around and saw me in my new Hufvud for the first time. That was a very important test it passed, at least for me, psychologically.
If that ever happens for me, it will be the dawn of a new day.

Have you posted a picture of the Hufvud? I'd like to see it (sorry, I'm way behind on my lurking).

Yes, it's been posted, but not here, but that's never any excuse to post a so-far unposted photo. ;)

It makes me want to turn to my wife and say, "Look! Look! Look at this!"
The look I would get would ruin it all.
And it's extremely sad. She is hardened against the beauty.

I'm glad this hat has created inspiration, but to tell the truth, if my wife was indifferent to it I'd be okay with that. I bought it for me, not her.

But she does like it.

One of my in-laws was celebrating her 50th birthday yesterday and while we were standing outside the bar on the terrace enjoying a drink a young man came up to me, shook my hand and said: "have to say it: best dressed man in the room, man, best dressed man in the room!"
What can you do but to thank someone for a compliment like that (even if I wasn't actually in the room). I was wearing this:

I accompanied my wife this afternoon to an auction of a horse property and the facility. Sad to see another of these venerable businesses close their doors. I wore a vtg. Stetson Open Road and garnered nods, "nice hat" ( said in brief and low volume tones) and tip of head and finger to brim of western hats throughout the 3 hours we attended the auction. Polite and appreciative group.

On the ride home my wife and I spoke of the polite folks in attendance and we chuckled at our shared observation of the hat folks speaking in low volume, having brief eye contacts, making small hand gestures and sharing a concern for human proximity. We agreed it was generally a place of like folks and that we fit in. Our take was of appreciation of the mores shown and recognition those are our behaviors.

Best this early evening, Eric -

I can empathise with that compliment, what I see is a hat wearer who takes a pride in their appearance. You have standards Sir, very subtle but very emphatic. Why wouldn't anyone compliment that?

Depends on the guy's age too, unless your name is Mick Jagger, that man has got as much stamina as he has money.

If you search for Adrian Lambert Photography, and if you have the patience to go through all his albums, you will come across this photo:
mg poole quay.png
It was deliberately in black & white in order to give it a period sepia look. When the MG car club of Germany came across the photo they used it on the front page of their magazine: "MG Kurier." The picture was used to highlight the feature that was being run on the model that I have, The MG Y-Type. You can see it here if you wish, but it's all in German: https://www.mg-cars.org.uk/imgytr/pdf/mgkurier0417.pdf
What Adrian, the young lady and the model agency proprietress all wanted, was for me to pose with her. They pressured me, coaxed me and flattered me, but I refused. Had she been my grand daughter, that would have been different, I would have felt much more comfortable. They were genuine in their compliments and I let Adrian take a black & white shot for the record, he did promise not to photoshop the result, and I'm both glad he didn't and glad that I didn't appear in the final take. She's a lovely girl, and later, her boyfriend appeared, complimenting me, adding, that he would liked to have been photographed with his girlfriend, but no way would he wear a hat. Then he asked me about mine. "Do you like it?" I asked, "I love it," he admitted. (He liked the car too.)

The only time I am the best dressed man in the room......when alone....hatted or not. Great hat.

Indifferent would be OK. I get a "withering look" for voicing enthusiasm about hats.
Maybe it will change if I start selling a few.
I did get my first order for a hat. It was at the wedding on Sunday. One of my twin sister bosses was mother of the bride. Their brother started talking to me about my moving into hats. He asked how much one would be, $50? $100?
I told him I would create a conversion hat for him for $100.
Gotta start somewhere.
