I'm about to get a N-1 Deck Jacket for the upcoming colder months. I'm looking for a khaki/navy, historically pretty much accurate jacket. I guess Buzz Rickson's and Real McCoy's are the only ones who make "correct" reproductions?

Currently I'm mostly leaning towards the khaki N-1 by BR, but there are two of them, one about 450£ and one around 625£ which is the Demotex version.
Does anyone know is the Demotex jacket the same that American Classics has with name Sea Water washed? What makes it more expensive? I've read some people say that the Demotex/Sea Water washed N-1 by BR is the best repro N-1 they've seen.

Also if anyone could advice about the fit, like if the BR N-1 runs large or small etc.

Or you could get an original issue A-2 deck jacket in olive drab (dark green). I have one and it is an excellent cold weather jacket. Similar to the N-1 but more modern (post WWII).

Vietnam era A-2 does look tempting as well. Not a bad suggestion at all. Is the lining some sort of nylon?

Zeltbahn, the BR Seawater version is no longer produced, so if you see one for sale, then it is several years old and should be considered extremely scarce. The basis of this version is indeed the Demotex version of the N-1, which is different from the standard BR N-1 in several ways.

The Demotex is what we call the heavyweight N-1, and indeed it is heavier in the weight of the cotton outer shell and the thickness of the alpaca/wool lining, bringing the coat in at nearly a pound more in weight than the standard version, size depending. The heavier outer shell is also noticeably stiffer than the standard version.

The so-called khaki version of the Demotex has a lining that is decidedly more brown with some grey fibers blended in, while the standard version is salt-and-pepper grey. The blue version of the heavyweight N-1 comes with a brown lining and it’s lighter-weight counterpart has the same grey lining as found on the lightweight khaki version.

You can read a great deal of detail on the various BR N-1 versions on our website. We also offer the heavyweight N-1 styles without any external stenciling, which is exclusive to us. And another exclusive is size XXXL/46 in both khaki versions:
https://www.historypreservation.com/products-page/buzz-ricksons-usnusmc/

You can also read our SIZING TIPS and PRODUCT MEASUREMENTS on each of the four N-1 pages.

You cannot go wrong with RMJP or BR for an N-1, as well as the now-defunct MOC coats. For purists, I find RMJP tends to be finer than the original styles they copy: e. g. their alpaca is softer than what you find on original coats, whereas BR is prickly to the touch, which compares perfectly to the original coats. This same practice of over-refining is present in all of the RMJP products I have seen in person, thus I would give BR the extra point for authenticity. I would personally only consider one of these two brands for an N-1.

Good luck!

It says Nylon, usually these are stenciled because they’re issued items. I always like them more than my field jackets

I think BR Japan only sells regular and demotex-ed version now. Haven't seen any mention of seawash version on Rakuten for awhile but the seawashed version does look the same as the demotex-ed version.

Demotex-ed BR12032

You should be able to find the BR code on the jacket and know which version you are looking at. I think BR12032 is the current demotex-ed version since 2012 but I don't see BR marketing it as seawashed.

yes in re the other thread. Can't go wrong with BR. I wear an original N-1 and BR's are very close. I have been impressed with the photos of Bronson N-1's as well. They won't be in the same class but the brand is usually pretty darn good for the $

I'd recommend picking up an original deck jacket over a repro - I own five WWII era N-1's and the quality can't be beat. If you go vintage, be sure to go up one size due to the thick alpaca fur lining.

You can find an original on ebay rather easily. Unless you're a larger size (44-46), you should have no trouble at all finding a nice clean example.

Always nice to give someone new a bit of advice, they may not be aware of 8 pages of the same thread.
Don’t get too hung up on authenticity,if you want to just keep warm, look good & don’t want to baby your jacket,a waxed pike brothers N1 works great for me ,,,

Hey look, we already have an 8-page thread on N1 deck jackets:
https://www.thefedoralounge.com/threads/usn-deck-jackets-period-repop.80725/
But I guess now we have another one in which we can have all the same discussions again.

Don't know how I missed this.. Yeah, could have posted there as well. Thanks for the link.

I think I actually like the navy coloured the most, the one which HPA has with no stencils:
https://www.historypreservation.com...-heavy-deck-jacket-non-stenciled-hpa-edition/

But HPA exclusive so not available in Europe :D

Ahh ok. Sounds like you are looking at some good options. I am the same size and Like my Pike Bros size small. It is certainly as authentic as Buzz or RM but a good jacket at a fair price.
