Levi jean jackets: Made now with smaller arms?

I was wondering if Levi had changed the pattern of their jean jackets over the years.

The trend for years now has been skinny jeans, and I wonder if they made the sleeves thin too - I tried one on at the store and found it pretty tight on the sleeves.

Anyone know if that's the case, and I'd be better suited to buying an older one?

I haven't worn a jean jacket in a dozen years at least, but it does seem to me that in general they've gotten longer and tighter all over.

The normal massmarket Levi's type III are just not true-to-size, sadly.

You simply have to buy one size bigger.

Yes they did. The current jacket is called trucker or sometimes a type 3. The type 3 jacket was first introduced in the early 60s. There are a lot of variations in this type of jacket. The early ones 557 and 557xx have no side pocket and are shorter and slightly wider. The 558/558xx has a longer body. Then came the 70505 without the side pocket in around late 60s with longer sleeves and in around the 80s, the 70505 with side pockets . My suggestion is if you are looking for a wider cut, try finding a 90s type 3 with side pockets. If you wanna go for the older 70505 without side pockets, there are lots of 70s 70505-0217 on ebay and the Levi's Vintage Clothing reproduction of the 1967 70505. There are lots of different models on sale at Levi's stores. I think Levi's has revived the 90s cut as well.

Thanks for the feedback. Maybe though I was unclear - I'm wondering if the sleeves themselves are skinnier? Not necessarily the cut of the body. I thought they used to be roomier in the arms is all.

I am not sure which model you tried on but they did a slim cut model with smaller armholes to pair with 501CT and 511 jeans a few years back. As said they also have revived models like the LVC line and the 90s model. Those are all "currently produced" models. I am also not sure which model is available at your local Levi's store. For example, only a couple of the local stores over here has the LVC line.

Yes, they regularly change the patterns, altering length and trimness - each era has its own characteristic - 1970's short; 1980's longer and trim; 1990's longer, wider and looser; etc. etc.
