I like how my natural vegtan bracelets progresses so far. Big picture from today, smaller pics from earlier dates. The small one got overdarkened by conditioner as in smaller pic but since then been washed and blotted and worn everyday and buffed by wooden slicker into real shine in lighter nice brown tone. The bigger one only get very light conditioner and polished with beeswax and getting warmer tan now.

Because you dont oil suede.
Leather get a step darker as you oil them, and later get darker again once the oil oxidates.

Didn't know Viberg used Tochigi leathers, is that a new addition?

My gear all handmade by me:
Wallet used for 3 years. It’s a lot darker since dirt and oil from my hands has rubbed off on it.
Messenger bag also 3 years old, the darker patches are indigo rubbing off from my jeans.
Belt, one year old, used almost daily, the darker patch is from the belt loop on my jeans.

Thanks! I think it’s neat to see the different evolution of the leather depending on what it’s used for. If you zoom in and look at the stitches, you can also see a clear evolution of my stitching when comparing the belt and the wallet... not terribly proud of the stitching on the wallet today, but it was one of the first pieces I did.

I definitely think you can be proud of your work, especially the stitching of the Messenger bag. I didn't even look close enough on the stitching of your wallet...but Man, that was your first piece you did and even if it's not perfect you can tell that you made it by yourself...not many of us can say this...at least I can't!

great job man, great patience and craftmanship, and the leather all looking nice and not grubby, how do you kept them under control in their "patina" building? did you protect them with leather finish top coat of some sort?

Thanks buddy! I don’t use any topcoat to protect them, I just use a leather oil and a leather fat when they’re new. Then maybe once a year? I’ve found that this leather is more vulnerable to stains when new.

Sorry leather grease is the correct English word I think, not leather fat. Anyway, the point being that it forms a thin layer on top of the leather that gives it a little bit of protection from dirt.

noted I can't find leather grease locally, but Obenauf HeavyDuty LP is almost the same right? I don't like Obenauf leather oil, many people turn their wallet into dirty ugly brown by using obenauf leather oil.

I haven’t tried any Obenauf products so I can’t really say. The stuff I use will darken the leather just a little bit, and it has a low absorption rate, most of it stays on top of the leather.
