This hat had an original selling price of $25 and had some sort of cushion system behind the rear of the sweatband

A fabulous catch, Joe and a Borsalino at their finest (to be honest they a lot of hats at their finest). Let the pictures speak for themselves. Congrats.

View attachment 238517 50s? Salvatore Balbi homburg made from the hair of a critter that doesn’t exist around southern Georgia. My first, and hopefully, not my last nutria.
This felt is soft to the touch, but very dense and rigid. Thick, but not too thick. The build quality on this Borsalino is amazing. View attachment 238518 View attachment 238519
That's a real beauty, Randall. Great find. They don't come much better than this. Can we get a shot of the label?

This one took its sweet time arriving, but in the end I'm glad it did. If the right hat comes along it is even ok if it's green (are you taking note, Max?;))
Borsalino Landasti Misto Salvia "Renna". Sounds like nobility and it is. Size 7 with the bound brim at 6cm and the (substantial) crown at 11cm at the center dent. Lightweight hat at only 96 grams. The label points toward the time periode 1936-1953. I'm thinking more towards the later end though, late forties possibly. Lovely soft hat that takes on any shape with no effort at all and a great hand as well.
It took two months for this hat to arrive and I suspect it may have been sitting in France all this time as I have had hats arrive from Germany and Italy without much delay. There is another hat however sitting in France that should have been here by now, so I suspect they are the ones that are holding this ones' siblings hostage as well. Merde!

A very recent Borsalino in light charcoal grey with light blue tones in some light. 5 1/2 inch open crown and 2 5/8 inch brim. As typical with many Borsalinos, it is a very tight 61cm. It took two days in a band block and a few steam applications to get it to fit right. Sold by Syd Jerome in Chicago.

A nice find, Brent. I always assume they run small, but I've come to find that the vintage American market ones actually run true to size in most cases. I like the brim edge stitching; not a common thing for the European market ones.
