Hi TFL team!

i just received a new RoughWear 27752 A-2 from Eastman in the mail in a size 46. This was just to try on, as I know I’ll need to add 2” of length, but wanted to check the body size first.

i love the way it fits in the shoulders, and also the chest seems to be enough room for a t-shirt and a flannel. I don’t really wear sweaters. But it does seem quite restrictive when I try and reach my arms out, like say if I wanted to ride my bike in it. Or fly a bomber.

is that just a typical first impression with one of these A-2’s because of the high armholes? Will it stretch a little in the right places or will I get used to it? Or should I send it back and go for the size 48 xl? I don’t want it to be too baggy...

thanks for your help! And yes, I am chewing tobacco ;)

A little length added and that looks great! I think that contract they make has wider shoulders too compared to others they make. If you are going custom size/ no return anyways can they add an inch to shoulder width? Or just pick your battles and just use a different jacket to ride. I am no pilot but i am a biker. I Picture in a cockpit controls low and close whereas on a bike one is stretch out front further with the arms

Last time i went to the ELC pop up store i asked about adding length, and unfortunately it wasn't possible to add 2" on anything.
Long sizes add 1", Extra Long size adds 1.5" and that was it.
I wanted to add more than that but was told "not possible" by Gary eastman himself.

There is also no way to add shoulder width or modify patterns in any way.

Personally i don't think that jacket fits you that well even without the length issue, the neck hole is sinking around your neck, the chest looks tight and loose at the same time, it's not what i would want for myself....

I would also not count on stretch to make it fit better.

The more I look at it, the better I like it. I wouldn’t ride it in all the time — I’ve got heavy FQHH for that, as well as the gazillion motorcycle jackets I bought before I developed good taste. But I would want to shoot around town in it...

Hmm... wish i lived in Scotland.

Also, I wish Aero or BK would reply to emails or answer the phone! Eastman seems to be the only one that's on the ball these days, re customer communications.

Very nice jacket matt!
It appears that you are a size 46 after all. I also think the tightness that you feel when trying to reach out and forward is fairly common in these jackets when you have a trim fit. Since there is no action back, nor shoulder gussets, or anything to allow for stretch and extra movement the jacket binds across your back when you extend your arms.
I think this is something that you get used to over time if you like A-2s. Going up a size would probably give you some extra movement but the jacket would be a lot bigger and it looks great as it is now.

Eastman will not customize the shoulder?

Yeah I think I like it this size and I think it should mold to me with time. I'll have 4 cm added to the arms and the body, and see how it fits then. At the end of the day, I've got more ordered from BK and Aero, so I'll see how those compare eventually.

The `Warhorse' leather is unreal on this thing.

Hi Matt - sorry you've not had a response from us, I've never had any communication with you and I've reached out to my colleagues who are still working while the factory is closed and the last email we can see we received from you was replied to. Can you drop me a line at holly@aeroleatherclothing.com and let me know what hasn't been answered and I'll deal with it personally?

Apologies if something has been missed but as Scotland is still in phase one it isn't safe for our factory to be open and production has been down for 2.5 months as the health and safety of our staff is of upmost importance right now. The UK has the highest death toll per million in the world, so that must be taken seriously. We are having phone calls transferred to Christina's phone during this time, but technology sometimes fails us and the line isn't always the clearest. We're working hard to get into the factory (with STRICT social distancing) to dispatch stock orders a couple of days a week, but overall this has been a difficult time for us to manage our business whilst keeping our staff safe and we're very grateful for our customers patience and understanding during this time.

Please do drop me a line and I'll work things out for you!

Well I will stick with this one and see how it goes after I add some length and wear it for a while. In the meantime I’m SO HAPPY TO HEAR FROM HOLLY!!! And hopefully Aero will make me a better fit, when the crisis eases up in Scotland.

I have to say, it is awful to see what’s going on with this virus in the US and the UK, especially from the vantage point of Berlin, where it was taken care of relatively well.

The Eastman jacket actually started to mold to my frame and fit much better as I wore it to the post office to mail back to Devon. And I hope they will err on the generous side of their 1.5-inch lengthening limit when they make me the new one.

Imagine this scenario in WWII: “I’m sorry Colonel, I can’t fly that B-24 on the Ploesti raid today, the Quartermaster issued me an A-2 that’s too tight!”:(:p
I think you should go with a size 48 Extra-Long.
