Highwayman - Zip Sleeve Highwayman Database

Hey Tony, I like your idea there! Are you going to use the collar that was on the Blue zip-sleeve HWM? I think your brown zip-sleeve one here may be the best looking one I have seen so far, the side pulls being up~4" doe not detract at all.
I’m keeping the standard HWM collar. It’s grown on me. While I love the premier collar I fear that trying to put that on a jacket it wasn’t intended for will result in the collar not fitting the jacket quite right...coming out too small or having a negative impact on the neck diameter. Sometimes less is more and I feel like this next one is addition by subtraction.

^^ yep - comletely agree. Will look forward to seeing this when it comes along. It will be a while, my order has been in since the end of Feburary and should be done sometime this month or next. Covid issues.

I’d be very surprised if I see it in anything under a year from now. I’m doubtful Aero has any midnight CXL on hand...God only knows when they’ll get it. Can’t imagine Horween has been running at anywhere near a typical production cycle either...

Posting up a few photos of a recently aquired Brown HWM, note the grain and character of this hide (FQHH)
This isn't a "sales post" :)

And that one is now gone too...

Moving right along here. Giving a big shout out to Bankshot for this Premier Fit "Size 46" in Cordovan FQHH. This is a very nicely appointed jacket with the folowing features:
  • Cordovan FQHH - heavy but not over the top
  • Alpaca Wool lining in Black
  • Button cuffs on sleeves
Dimensions are as follows:
  • Shoulder 18.25"
  • Pit to Pit 24"
  • Back 26.5"
  • Waist 22.5"
  • Sleeve 26.25
Most likely this jacket will go down to Dean to get a #10 Nickle zip installed.

I love how this jacket fits, just at the level of "fitted" with a small amount of layering room.

The Alpaca wool is very nice, adds a good measure of warmth, and the cotton drill in the sleeves is a good compliment to the workwear design of this highwayman.

I would say it's about 60% broken in. As the weather gets a little nicer, I hope to get this beauty broken in properly!

Thanks guys! I agree. The blue "44" was actually a little too snug. Highwayman's are a unique fit, hard to get just right without falling overboard.

This is my one, it'll be 10 years old in June.
Size 42 with a 26 body and arms, if I recall. Apart from that it's pretty standard, brown FQHH with Alpaca lining.
It is a little large for just a t-shirt but is great with a layer, which is fine by me as I have other jackets for that use.
I love it and have worn the hell out of it since I got it.

Without a doubt my favorite HWM on this forum.

Adding my Vicenza Highwayman to the database. I already have a brown FQHH one from the last sale, wore it lots, still no where close to Dav's awesome jacket. So just posting a black Vicenza one which I just got from the sale page again. Very dangerous place.

Rainy day outside shot, with the "shawl collar" hoodie, got that from MrProper's Irvin:

I usually cinched the hem tight, but this can happen. I might cinch less from now on. Or just wear proper pants.

My opinion on the original Highwayman (May be biased because I now have two):
I don't think this is made for Arnold V shaped guys. The huge P2P is because of the low armholes. Many vintages are cut like this as I keep finding out. To fill out the P2P the shoulder wouldn't have worked. This is more of a inverted trapezoid shape than an inverted triangle shape. For this reason I honestly don't think downsizing can work on the highwayman. I would end up with tight no mobility shoulder super short sleeves and I would still not be able to fill out the P2P.
Thinner leather works better in this pattern. My CXL FQHH is about 2.5oz, soft, and this Vicenza is 2.25oz stiff, but the stiffer thinner leather still works better than the slightly thicker softer leather. By a very small margin, but noticeable. I am guessing thinner Baddy steer would work even better because it has more stretch. But I don't know yet.
I got both my Highwaymans from the sale page when the additional 25 off happened. It's really the only way to do these. Lots of value. It ain't perfect but no amount of tweaking will make it so. This jacket is too big and too small at the same time. But it also works. So there is that. Same could be said about the V Twin. Humble beginnings, but proven to be ass kicking as time goes by. Fancier stuff comes and go. Emphasis on the go part. Classics stands the test of time. These are my Highwayman fan boy words.

Long live the Highwayman!

Well put, and couldn't agree more, based on experience of ten of these jackets.

I have better-fitting and fancier jackets in many respects, but the HWM is the one I eventually end up wearing the most.

The new HWM fits you nicely btw. - ready to see a lot of wear!

I wear a cross zip because I cannot get the HWM to look as good on me as it is supposed to, and I've seen what a good looking HWM jacket does for a person, so I am thus trying to emulate the vibe through a flashier jacket. To this day, I still do hope to find one that will do that.
