If the socks are even half as cool as the rest of the digs then they're outstanding. That's one nice looking jacket as well as hat.

Got kinda chilly here the last couple of days so was looking for something to do indoors. Boxing up and stashing some of the excess felt was part of that.
Had a Chris Ledoux hat made up by Mackey's a few years ago. I like the music and Chris' signature hat. But the shape ended up on the rack as it wasn't something I would ever wear.
With the time and inclination today I turned on the tea kettle and pulled out the wife's steam iron and my muslin clothes to reshape this one. First thing I did was pull the liner and steam the crown. Winchester's 100% beaver is always a pleasure to work with. Popped the crease out and then felted the open crown down from a 7", to a flat top 5". Done for the most part with just the steam iron. Took the brim back to flat under a layer of muslin. The brims develope their own classic shape on my long oval head. Steamed the nice wide leather sweat up good and stuck it on my long, long oval head, so it'll shrink to fit.
Nothing special really. Good beaver hat, 5" flat crown, an almost flat 4.25" brim. Smaller brim than I usually wear but it should be a good hat for this winter and the typical wind. Saved the original two ply ribbon band and a nice sterling silver concho I stuck on the original hat to give it a little flare.
Easy to forget just much fun it can be to repurpose a good felt hat.
Shaped like a good many of my hats. But just enough difference to get it on my head again and keep me enthralled for a while yet.

Glad you liked the shirt. It’s always the little details I appreciate that draw me to such things.
Something that doesn’t make it out much. During the Miller-Stickman catalog days, this would have been the Arminty model. This one came a bit later, maybe 68 or so. The ‘American Royal’ on the front of the sweat indicates a relationship with the A R annual livestock show in KC. From other hats I’ve seen online and some research @Hurricane Jack did out his way; it’s likely the recipients of these hats were members of Saddle and Sirloin club, an up on the rack private membership equine and shooting club. This hat came with two Sterling and enamel S&S pins poked through it along with a few other worthless ones. Seems adorning these hats was the thing; I’ve run across others for sale with as many as 80 pins on the crown.

Thanks, guys. Joe, the ribbon is actually two three ply ribbons stacked. Took awhile to get used to the binding but I’m coming around to it. Perry, the boots are Ostrich.
Also, I always try to mention this when I post this hat; @alanfgag has the nicest example I’ve ever seen of this style, an OLD #1 Quality that’s just beautiful. Maybe this will prompt him to post it again.

I was making an M1899 Campaign Hat conversion but I didn't like the serious taper in the crown, so with a little tweaking I recreased the crown to something of a Cattleman but still kept some of the campaign hat profile I was after.
I originally went for something like this but the crown was too tapered for my taste. This is a photo from the Spanish American War. It would only take me a minute to retweak the crown again to look like this, but, too much taper!
This is an actual Marine Gunnery Sergeant dressed in a replica Spanish American War era marine uniform
I went with a similar sideview profile on the crown but without the upflip on the back of the brim. This is closer to the hat's actual color and I also sewed on a matching colored 1/2 ribbon with a double pointed bow.
I found a few Spanish American War insignias like this one on eBay for this hat, as well as some braided cords.
I photoshopped this onto the hat.

Teddy Roosevelt actually had his uniform & hat custom made before he reported for duty. I've been watching 'The Rough Riders' on youtube. It showed in the movie that Roosevelt had his uniform custom made. Tom Horn was Buckey O'Neill's deputy? I didn't know that. Wow. What a deputy.
