There seems to be a shortage of threads of dedicated perfecto/motorcycle style Aero jackets here, so I decided to start one off.

Back in Feburary, which seems like 2 years ago now, I placed and order with Carrie of Thurston Brothers for an Aero Ridley/J106 Motorcycle jacket. I of course did not realize at that time in mid-Feburary just what was coming around the corner. In any event, my custom ordered jacket, a first for me, just arrived on Monday. To say I am pleased and very thankful for it is an understatement!

Julie Leitch built this jacket of Heavy FQHH of the Horween varity. I aksed for no epaulettes or storm cuffs, but for a D-pocket, nickle hardware, Black Steward lightweight Tartan body lining with black cotton drill in the sleeves. And I asked for Cordovan leather on this jacket. Seems I have enough black, so let's brighten this one up a bit! It's just getting into fall here, so the color works well for the harvest season. It's my favorite season, mostly due to growing up on a midwestern grain farm in Illinois.

So without further ado, here is what arrived Monday. I'll do a more full review on it soon, been starting to wear it around the house and enjoying the rich CXL Horsehide scent.

And a few fit photos right out of the box - a Lot of break-in to go here but this leather is softening up quite nicely.

Awesome jacket and fit. I suppose we should add our own photos to this thread of our own Ridleys/J106, right?

Dark seal Vicenza, antique brass, olive thread and cotton drill lining

Yes, Marker that was the intend! Not just my deal here but for all of us!

I really like your jacket here, looks great and I am sure it's great to wear...

Does the j106/Ridley always come with a D pocket?

So the Ridley is a Thurston Brothers collaborative jacket with Aero. It is similar to the Stock J106 but has many modification options. Might reach out to Carrie at Thurston brothers to see if it can be built without the D-pocket.

^^ that's good to know. Thank you, i will look into it. The Ridley for sure is a more streamlined cross zip compared to the stf bootlegger that I recently acquired.

Holly explained to me that Aero doesn't offer a Ridley model itself, as this is a special model exclusively for Thurston. If you want to order something similar directly from Aero, you order a "Motorcycle Jacket", which is then changed to a "Slim Fit Motorcycle Jacket". you can then configure it as you like.

Thanks, Got it. I ordered a cross zip from Greg so it might turn out to something like a Ridley but a bit more tamed. Or maybe one of those perfecto silhouette without the bells and whistles

Beautiful. I'm on the fence to get an Indian Ranger in the blacked brown Vicenza. I like the black with the bronze hardware, and I think the brown peeking through in the creases might be something special. so keep us posted with the wear. I'm curious to see how the brass shines with yours.

This essentially resonates what Denny told me last year when I asked about the Ridley when in the showroom as admittedly I did find the situation somewhat confusing.

His explanation was that the Ridley was a specification/configuration that could only be bought through Thurston, however a similar jacket based off the J106 with the fit of a Board Racer can be made directly through Aero. Interestingly he also mentioned this was how the basic layout of the Hooch Hauler came to be.

Amazing result of your jacket, looks like you’ve got a more brown BB Vicenza!

Well, I think I have a fairly good idea what I’ll be asking for in a Ridley after my recent experiences with a competitor.

I am sorry they don’t carry the brown Horween Milan - it’s such a beautiful, rich color. It sounds like seal Vicenza will be the closest match.

What do you all think about adding a western yoke to the back?
