Ha! Now that’s a great question. You won’t believe the answer when you see it.

I have some custom jacket designs I made some time ago and I was wondering who made that jacket. I wanted to get into making custom leather jackets, I even bought an industrial sewing machine and started to mess around with some leather, then life happened and now it just sits in a garage and bugs me that I never got around to do it properly.

why don't you send the picture of your jacket design to 5* now man :). as for my own jacket I doodled it and and I bought the hide online from local tannery somewhere in east java region where I live 1.5mm vegtan cow for the body and 2mm for the cuff and patch pockets, also bought the twist toggles online, and I commission local leather workshop in my city to make it. I happen to live 5mins drive from them.

so far since I joined this forum I commission them 1 jacket/ year or so.. so far from 7 yrs here I only accumulated 7 jackets, which is incredibly minimalistic:).

I've said it before, and I say it again now, if anyone interested to try this jacket design out (or any of my drawings I shared here) feel free to use the drawing, maybe modify it ( my own jacket is a bit modified from the drawing already my cuff is taller), and then bring it to 5* or elsewhere, for personal use I give my permission always.

This is something I recognize. With my FL jacket this is not as pronounced so it doesn't really show but when I put it on I feel exactly what you describe. I feel tension right here:

If you 'rotate' the jacket in this direction, the tension is relieved.

What I've learned in my days when working in the bespoke suit business, is that this is caused by an incorrect sleeve pitch.

Same issue described here :

Great info. Thanks to OP. Such a neglected topic.

I appreciate when someone can do such things and I was impressed by your jacket. I think I saw another jacket you wore and I remember I liked the cuts I saw on that one. Congrats and looking forward to seeing more of your creations!

As for my designs, I'll get to them when the time will come :)

New to me Y2 type II. Courtesy of @ton312

As compared to my original Levi's type II, it feels a bit long for the style. Apart from that the fit is great for layering.

Anyway my gf said "hey that's a nice jacket". Which means this is a keeper :)
@Marc mndt I definitely agree with your GF! Please keep this one and not everything needs to look historically perfect as long as it looks great like in your case! Congrats!

I had the same idea, but never could find the budget for the machine... you got further than me. I even took sewing classes and spent time with jacket makers to learn some “tricks”.

^^ Yes. They are still operating. I have been to one of their factories in Kewanee, IL. For some time, until recently, they had a "factory store" there, however it seems to be closed now.

Their older products - such as your nice CR, are pretty decent. Newer ones were iffy in terms of quality.
Really? They are still operating? Mine has a tag inside that says "Leather Crafters" NYC. It says to contact them if there are any issues with the jacket. Hahaha!

I love the ease of Chelsea boots and am also looking to make the move to Engineers. Used to wear a pair of Frye decades ago in college when they still made a decent pair.

worn Chelsea boots for the last 2 days and it's so easy and I'd imagine an engineer will be the same. What engr boot are you possibly going to go for?

Perfect fit. Perfect colour. Success!!!

Thank you! Love this shade of brown, lucky I was able to order one from this hide before FL stopped offering it! Cheers

How did you find those classes? I was thinking of taking classes too but never got around to do it. Now after I couldn't agree with the maker on the jacket on the material I wanted to use I might as well try to do it myself eventually. I was thinking to start with a trucker pattern and denim to see what I can do.
