I know, right.

It felt like there was too much pull on the bottom part of the tape. So the slider was almost at a 45 degree angle instead of laying at a 12 o'clock position. In order to get the pin in, you had to bend the male pin into the slider,, get it down all the way through and then zip before it came undone. The tight welt didn't help either.

After I would say about 50 uses, the pin literally snapped length wise. It wasn't the usual fraying type issue.

I never handled a riri before, so not sure if maybe I was doing something wrong. But it felt more like an installation error than design. But I could be wrong.

oh wow good to know. Did you tell Theodoros? Seems like he would've done something about it, but I guess shipping back and forth would've been prohibitive? Still would be good to know whether it's an install error or zipper flaw.

nah, I feared it would be too much back and forth, sending to Greece, etc. Plus I wasn't the original owner. Had I remembered Marc was going, I might have asked him to see if he could pick up a spare zipper for me. But to be honest, the zipper was always the one thing on the jacket I didn't like. I wish I had a good before and after. It was grey in color. The hardware on the jacket is a discolored nickel. And then the jacket has an off white mutton collar as well with charcoal/white plaid wool lining. So there was a lot going on. The teeth already match and I suspect the slider will patina and everything will just flow better, in more ways than one LOL.

I can't imagine the zipper was designed like that. Now that I think about it, a lot of the problem was the welt. You couldn't get the male pin to slide in, especially at an angle. And it went down all the way to the bottom hem, so it was sort of cornered in. I was constantly folding back the welt, twisting, turning. It was like doing the Macarena LOL.

Anyway, all good now. Trust me, my feelings about Thedi have not changed. I've said it many times. If I were to start all over again, I'd buy 3-4 Thedis, a Schott Perfecto, a Cal LAPD, a couple Field Leathers and call it a day.

Been getting to wear this one almost regularly to work. It warms up enough during the day to not be necessary by the afternoon but this ELMC is just perfect for fall. Honestly it’s like a leather shirt. 2.5oz leather , super lightweight, superb drape but enough body to look the part. The liner is like silk. Just a super easy jacket to wear. If I lived in a warmer climate I’d probably buy all three colors and their Windward and call it good. Should’ve picked one up years ago.

Honestly their Windward is an even better jacket...
The lining is the same silky stuff but with a wool interliner, and the jacket has underarm gussets that are much more useful than the californian setup. Biceps are also a tad less pinchy.
If you see a used one you should give it a go, you won't be disappointed, same size as the californian but maybe slightly tighter in the bottom hem. The brown is really nice too.
The duo "Californian + Windward" is hard to beat.

Would make a great layering piece for under the 30oz moose hide. :)
