Hats and hair color

I don't think it has to do with a match to hair, but a match to the clothing you wear, but here again there are no clear rules - just some common sense that displays your own style. Historically, a blue/black/grey hat would be worn with a blue/grey suit (black in a suit left out deliberately, thats another topic, and yes they exist for Tuxedo or funerals but not as a suit IMHO) and a brown hat with brown hues, but since hats became accessories and not part of the standard menswear, these informal rules if they can be called such have been broken over and over again.

So, just choose what you think suits your personal style - a bit like a brown or black pair of shoes - some people pull off the different combinations better than others, and it all reflects your personal style. But hats and hair color is an unusual way of looking at it IMHO. Wear in good health and enjoy.

I don’t care for a black suit unless wearing one for specific and limited uses, but I don’t know about saying it doesn’t exist as a suit color? Lots of Victorians would have a big problem with this. :)

I was going to post this in the "Ask a question" thread but this is a help request more than a question. I read somewhere that gray hair and brown hats don't go together. I am ordering a whiskey colored hat and I have salt and pepper (brown) hair.
Thanks.
If you read somewhere that grey hair and brown hats don't go together, what you read was an opinion. The world is full of them, chances are that someone, somewhere, has opined on the colour of toilet tissue and how that colour is not appropriate for certain bathroom colour schemes.
Hat and hair colour, like the bathroom analogy is B/S. Where what you like, not what others suggest. You want to see a brown hat on an old fellow who doesn't care about the fashion police?

@Bill Hughes - That is a great hat and you wear it well (which further disproves the aforementioned "fashion advice.")

@GHT - I'm sorry. There MUST be standards! The color of toilet paper matters... (in this case, brown is never a good idea.)

Thanks guys for the responses. I do like a thread with lots of pictures and (even though I don't have one yet) I like the whiskey and brown colors. So do feel free to continue to add pictures to this thread.

PS: There is nothing new under the sun, including this question. Sorry I missed this existing thread.

I tried to look for images of brown and whiskey hats on gray-haired people with some luck. To me, gray-ish hair and brownish hats don't look bad at all. Here is where I need some help...

Can anyone with gray hair that has a whiskey and/or brown colored hat please post a picture (maybe a profile/side shot) of yourself in that hat (please identify the color).

I'm thinking the "brown hat/gray hair don't mix" thought is more myth than fact. Post your opinions about this as well.
Thanks.
To answer your original question grey hair/brown hat.
Like most things....it depends.
It depends on so many hat/hair variables provided that:
1. you have hair
2. you have a hat
Satisfying 1. and 2. then it depends, like most things, on how much overthinking one needs to conclude that as long as nobody loses an eye or breaks a leg....it’s probably ok, maybe even perfect.
Go figure
B

Ps: now if it was red hair...all bets are off, maybe.
