Was this a sports or hiking injury?
Neither. I was talking to my Mother on the phone in my office in the basement. When we finished, I looked at my watch and it was 4:45 PM. I thought there would be sufficient ambient light from the 3 windows in the basement for me to navigate the length of the basement to the stairs. Wrong. It had been raining with dark cloud cover, and it was pitch black. I made it to the stairs and then my right foot went into the spokes of a road bike I had set up on an indoor trainer. We all went down with the bike and trainer coming down on top of me. Got a nice fracture of the fibula at the ankle.

My wife wanted to take me to the ER, but I said, "No, I'll wait until my appointment with my doc 2 days from now. Combat helicopter pilots are tough. They don't go to the ER with a broken leg when there is an alternative." She just rolled her eyes. Of course then I didn't know it was broken, but highly suspected it was.

So, there began my life of inactivity for the next several months and the gain of about 30 pounds. I went from 185, and in shape, to about 215 and out of shape.

That is a great story my friend: the heroic absurdity of everyday life. It is hilarious in a way, despite being so painful, and I get the impression that you do see the comical side of it?

I’m sorry you’ve been “hors de combat” for several months, but now that you are better it is time to get back to that indoor trainer. You have time to shed those pounds before Woolly Pully weather comes - as it comes later for you in the Mid-South than it does for us in NW Europe. For my part, I can’t wait for it to come.

You have a big incentive to get fit so that you can wear your WPs comfortably again. See it as a challenge Sir.

I have one in a very similar color. It more closely resembles the middle image.
These are all the same WP. The effect of the light on the middle image makes it look like the standard Army version, which is described as olive green but is almost bordering on khaki. Earlier versions including the first one I had back in the 70s (at the tender age of 11) were more khaki in colour. I have two of the olive ones now: one with shoulder straps and pen pocket, one just bog standard like the Peat Brown (PB) above. I also have a much older PB with the pen pocket and straps.

I have had a number of PB Woolly Pullies over the years - the first one I acquired in my last year of high school in the mid 80s. I was already a fully-fledged aficionado by then and I saw the PB as an interesting contrast to the green, navy, black and Air Force versions.

I Notice Outdoor Knitwear have revamped their website, I think it looks slightly better, the have separate Men's and Women's garments.

The are also doing clearance sale on certain items form GBP £ 25.00 approx., go into Men's Sweaters, scroll down to workwear/clearance and should should find them.

For those of us who have more than one Woolly Pully in different colours (e.g. Army olive; Navy Blue and Air Force Blue): if you could keep only one of them, which would it be?

This is a difficult question for me as I have the whole colour range of them. However, although I probably wear the Navy version most often, ultimately it would have to be the Army WP that I would keep.

Yes, I agree, although the Navy is smart, I think too, I would keep the Army WP.

I too have the full range of Outdoor Knitwear Woolly Pullys - including the "Bond". My go to is the Army as well.

The one I wear most often is a MoD surplus Jersey Man's Heavy Olive Roundneck manufactured by Kempton. The former owner cut a small hole at the front inside neck and snaked around a black shoelace in the channel. As it ties on the inside there is no danger of it popping out and getting entangled in some machinery. Rather clever!
