Stetson 5X today. I consider it my Raylan Givens hat.

I have only had this hat for 11 years and today decided to shape it so I can start wearing it. Brim used to be rediculously flat and stiff as all hell. So put It into a cold shower for about 5 minutes and gave it a nice front dip. Looks very Hondo to me know. I just need to figure out a hat band for it.

I think in addition to the suggestions of leather or horsehair a simple thin grosgrain ribbon would work well also

Just got this one, a 1940s Stetson 3X Beaver, the previous owner’s great-grandfather purchased it in Nebraska around the mid-40s. It showed up like this:

Crown is extremely soft and malleable, will take any shape without steam, sweatband and reed are both intact and supple. I’ll keep it with this crease instead:

But it can take all kinds of creases:

I might eventually send it off for a slight stretch and a pencil curl.

Dug this one up. Doesent look to bad. One of my daughters is into braiding right now. I am tempted to get some paracord and see what she can come up with for a hat band.

Okay, I’ll bite ……. what is it?

I‘m not going to face scorn, ridicule, and embarrassment by guessing wrong.
The hat is a Beaver Brand hat I bought years ago as new old dead stock from a small town general store. Loved the crown shape but hated the flattened brim (long term improper storage)so I put it away and didn’t do anything with it until this last weekend.

Very nice, I thought it was an Akubra, but I don’t have what you’d call a practiced eye.

I seem to be known as the Akubra guy so I can see how you would think that. This has a nice 3 1/4” brim and if I pop the crown out it is at least 6 1/2” tall. Has a label saying imported fur felt but, by feel, it’s at least a 100% rabbit. Has a softness that makes me think there could be some beaver as well. What’s even better is it fits my Long Oval head shape perfectly without any breaking in. I just hope the sweatband lasts. I got two hats at the same time from the same place and the other ones sweat band shrank, cracked then fell out after a year of hard use. That one is still in storage waiting for me to send it off to be redone.

I'm waiting on a very similar Beaver Brand hat, I hope it fits my LO head too.
