Extra Long Oval ...

I have only made one hat for an extra long oval client. Even this block would not have worked as he had a head shaped like a ship. Broad at the back and it narrowed considerably as it reached the forehead. I made the hat, but it worked out to about a buck an hour for my labour.

But it was a challenge that I had to try ONCE!

I was watching it. I can understand the price it sold for, but don't understand the Lenox Amish hat selling for as much as it did.

I went $35 on the Lenox but was willing to go higher than the selling price on the velour. I keep telling myself that buyer was willing to go big so all I did was not bid the hat up rather than missing it. It helps me sleep at night. :)

Was there any provenance with it?

Just that is was out of someone's collection. Listed as a 3X. A Eisenhower hat is coming up soon.

It's listed as a 3X also and states that it was "presented as a gift to U.S. Senator and Ike's Assistant Secretary of Defense Frederick E. Seaton."

The giant chuck of missing brim is a deal killer for me ... ;)

It's in a 1965 anniversary box.

From the same collection as the other hat.

I really like the case with the presidential seal. It doesn’t look like a One-Hundred either. Was there any provenance with it? It looks like just a presidential library gift shop hat, but he case is unusual for that.

Thanks for sharing it!
Yes we reflected on this before...the seal DEFINITELY does not have any of the patina of the case. And of course Truman did not wear a pre-creased hat, he creased his own. I am not aware of him EVER wearing a rancher crease.....he like d a pinch crease.

His favorite to wear was a Stetson 7xcb though he did wear nice Resistols too....AND proper fedoras (usually camber style).

PS: I wonder what size the hat was...Truman wore a 7 3/8. It looks every bit of a Presidential Library Hat that they added the case to. Buyer beware.......
