Yes, it’s a great hat. Nice felt between western and dress weight. I’ve been toying with the idea of reducing the brim width, though, either with a pencil curl or outright trimming.Very cool. The No. 1s are typically very good hats.
Thanks, Ross.A #53 block western with all the sweat goodies is hard to beat, nice one Mike!
YOWZA!!!! Most excellent, Randall!!Sized up from 7 1/8 to 7 1/4+ and reshaped just a bit.
Re-Flanged the 4” mobile shade, and curled the 1/8” bound brim edge, slightly.
Looks to be an early 40s model considering the gold bound size tag and sewn rear seam on the sweatband. If there ever was a liner it was gone when I got it. View attachment 635573 View attachment 635572 View attachment 635569 View attachment 635570 View attachment 635571

Thanks, Joe!Fabulous
The 1684 tag is most certainly a dry cleaners or hatters tag.Stetson Number 1 Quality. Has 3 1/4 inch brim and 7 inch open crown. Lot Number 7479, so dates to late 1930's to 1940-41. There were no mfg tags in the hat. This hat is fairly similar to my Hap Corey hat on this same page. One additional note about the hat: I noticed that there were no original threads attaching the sweatband to the hat, only a few random more modern threads. This made me wonder if someone had counterfeited a Stetson hat by putting a Stetson sweatband and liner into some random hat, but I compared the hat to my Hap Corey hat, also a Number 1 Quality Stetson of the same period, and the felt and brim binding are the same. I don't know what the number 1684 written inside the hat and on a paper tag on the sweatband represent unless they are a sign that the hat was worked on at some time in the past.
