Lost Worlds jacket sleeves too wide

So for this LW Speed Demon size 42, the sleeves are so wide it’s like designed for a gorilla!

About 1 inch wider than Vanson Enfield 42!

Why?!

Do you reckon this was built for a super human, or all LW jackets are like this?

I can only wear this with a heavy fleece with takes my forearms to gorilla size

That’s not the point - the point is wrist opening being so wide on this jacket even when zipped up wind can below up the sleeves and chill the wearer /rider. It can almost be worn as an overcoat over a suit jacket!

I don't think it's a specific Lost Worlds thing here. We should not blame a reputable manufacturer for sizing differances, especially based off one pre-owned sample.

These jackets - from Lost Worlds are essentially a Made to Order jacket for the first customer. When I ordered a J23 new over the phone from Stuart, he asked for my basic dimensions and clarified some of the usage purposes for the jacket. That J23 (which I later sold on) had sleeves, chest and overall fitment as if it was perfectly, made to measure. My greater challenge overall with jackets is sleeve length - not end width, rarely are they long enough for my arms.

Here are four of my current jackets with the sleeves correctly zipped shut (as if it was being worn) and the measurements of all 4 are fairly close ~ 5" give or take ~ 3/8". Zip your sleeves shut and measure as shown below, it may be that this one needs some tailoring. Remember - if you did not order it new - you are stuck with whatever the original owner specified for their own needs.

The few LW jackets I've handled were all fine. Stuart does size his jackets to the customer, so perhaps this what he made for some gorilla.

Thanks! I wasn’t aware LW offers customization for sleeves width - you may well be right I’m stuck with a custom order.

I’m fine with it as it’s a winter layering jacket.

Well I’ll know better when another LW jacket I bought arrives in a couple of weeks time.

@AeroFan_07 - if you measure your J24 sleeve right at the opening, it should be around 4” right?

I've only owned one LW - a Ryder. I found the sleeves pretty wide. I've seen numerous LW jackets here that appear to have very wide sleeves. I'm not the only one to notice it - numerous people have mentioned it. Having said that, I've noticed some LW jackets on this site that appear to be normal in sleeve width.

TBH - before I bought a LW jacket, I would need to verify that the sleeves weren't too wide. I think big sleeves like that look awful.

My SD is in kids bedroom wardrobe so don’t want to wake them up.

My Vanson 42 sleeve measures similar to the J24. So I reckon the SD sleeve must measure just under 6”

What I like about this Vanson sleeve width is - I can layer a thick fleece zipping up half way (snug), or I can wear a t shirt under and zip all the way to the end around bare wrist and its still snug

5.25" (external) - I wouldn't be able to wear it if they were 4"

I also just checked out my Stock size "50" Lost Worlds Columbia and the 1950's vintage Bates cafe racer - both right at ~ 5.25" at the end of the sleeve.

Lost world sleeves are quite big in general. I get the sense that Stu mostly got set in his ways with the 80s/90s patterns.

Thats sounds fine in theory, then it rains and you're soaked,or frozen. Stuart probably never rode though a Scottish winter. Gloves over the cuffs every time.

Pretty sure thats me you have quoted there...
In retrospect its not a problem at all.
It allows me to comfortably fit a thick jumper, which is necessary for a riding jacket in my part of the world.

With short gloves a small amount of air gets in through the wrist, which is nice and cooling in summer.
If it is cold or raining i just wear gauntlet gloves above the wrist and seal everything shut.

So yeah, i did originally think the wrists where big, but after living with these jackets for years, riding with them in the heat and the cold, i would still say they are the best jackets i own, the only jackets i wear even though i have many other brands available.

I have not had a second thought about wrist opening size since that post was originally posted.
