Up for sale from my personal collection is this incredibly rare 1st Edition Appalachian Tanned and Tailored Horsehide motorcycle jacket from the late 1940s. Later iterations of this jacket sometimes pop up on the market, but this 1st edition is almost never seen.

Appalachian Tanned and Tailored was a manufacturer of leather jackets, notably producing motorcycle jackets for Sears during the mid-20th century. They were among several companies, including California Sportwear Company, and Roughwear Clothing, that supplied Sears with leather garments.

This jacket has absolutely amazing features that is completely unique and not seen on any other jackets from the mid 20th century - super unique double front pockets with dual access, two large "map pockets" on the front and on the back. The rear map pockets extends throughout the entirety of the back panel. Further, this beautiful jackets features an early cotton plaid lining similar to seen on the very first Bucos, and also features original studwork.

The jacket is in overall very nice vintage condition - no issues with the leather, the cotton plaid lining is in overall nice shape with some wear at the hem and at the sleeve opening. All pockets except one left hand warmer are intact (the pocket remains, just has come undone at the bottom) , all zippers are original and work well.

All studs except for two remain present. Even the fabric at the collar remains present. There is one very old looking repair at one sleeve gusset which doesn’t affect the zipper at all. There is probably two or so loose stitches at the right armpit which can be tightened up. Very common issue on an old jacket, all other stitches look strong. Please review photos or ask questions.

This jacket is also in a larger than average size, as most finds from the mid-20th century are in unbearably small sizes. There is no size tag, please see pictures for measurements.

Please note that I have exhibited this fantastic jacket as best as I can. As this is a true vintage item, minor wear marks should be expected. Any significant issues would be shown.

The price for the jacket is $750 shipped via Paypal Friends & Family in the continental U.S. I can ship to other countries, but additional costs will incur. Please let me know if you have any questions.

Friend, you have a great eye. How do you keep on finding them? Keep it up. If you ran in to another Escape of New York Cali, do not sell. Keep it or let me know before you put it on the market.
