The President - Multi-Felted

Here is a hat that was shared by Brent on his FB group. The President “Muli-Felted”. Curiosity got the better of me along with the neato ribbon treatment. In hand I can’t say I can shed much more light on what Multi-Felted might mean. It’s certainly a fur felt.. possible there are some other fibers mixed in. I’d say it is a bit thicker felt.. maybe a winter weight but definitely not a western weight. Hand is decent.. not the smoothest but definitely not a wool feel. I did not find any manufacturer tags under the sweat… though I did not dig too deeply to avoid damaging the sweatband. @DaveProc indicated it was most likely made by John W. Green & Sons of Danbury CT. for Bidgman's Department store as they patented "Multi-felted" in 1931. All in all it’s a hat with a ton of character. I love the ribbon treatment and I decided to adorn this one at least for now with this gold key tie clip. This hat served as my rain hat the last few days waiting for a nice clear day like today to get its pictures. It certainly had no trouble shrugging off the weather.

Cool find, Joe. The proncounced brim curve in the back has me thinking if it was maybe intended to be worn brim up all the way.

Thanks Stefan. You know I never thought of that. It does have quite the flange at the rear. With the wide binding on both top and bottom that is a very good chance. I may give it a try next time I have it out.

This came in last week.

Fléchet Haut Luxe velour fedora in black. Size 56 with the raw edge brim at 6cm and the crown at 11cm at the center dent. A velour of the finest quality, that can compete with the best Austrian ones. Did not expect that to be honest; usually the French velour hats lack the softness of hand and density that the Austrian ones have. This one is different. There was a newspaper clipping behind the sweatband with a date of 1948 on it. The Art Deco style lettering on the sweatband has me thinking it could be earlier though. More in the French hats thread.

Another new arrival.

Berteil homburg in a grey brown colour called Tourbe (peat) in the label. Size 59 (7 3/8 American) with the bound brim at 6cm and the crown at 11cm at the center dent. All the quality we've come to expect from Berteil, though the maker of this felt probably is Mossant, as "tourbe" is a colour they used. Sold to me as black, but you'd have to be more colour deaf than me to think this is black.
Some taper to the crown side to side, but not as pronounced in real life as it looks on the pics.

Rembrandt Staalmeester Hand Made
Medium to light grey felt
5 inch crown as shaped
1 1/2 grosgrain ribbon
1 7/8 brim

Day two of StingyMas has me digging into Stefan’s @steur Magical Mystery care package from earlier this year. And this beautiful Rembrandt Staalmeester gets the call. I actually like how he had it with the tight brim curl on the sides. It’s a lovely medium to light grey with just a shade darker ribbon.

Lees London - Homburg
Warm Grey Felt
4 3/4 Crown as shaped
1 3/4 Grosgrain Ribbon
1 1/2 to d'orsay curl (2 1/2 total) with contrasting binding

The Fourth Day of StingyMas has us once again going to Stefan’s magic mystery care package where I came up with the cool Lees London homburg. A homburg can be stingy right? Well if so this one would be it! With just an inch and a half to the edge of the d’orsay curl on the sides about 1 3/4 total the front it certainly gives stingy dimensions. The felt is a medium warm grey with black grosgrain ribbon and a contrasting binding finishes the brim curl.
