Car coats - are they out of fashion now?!

I have always assumed this from looking at images of the two jackets but good to have this confirmed.
Is the Barnstormer a trimmer fit than the Cheyenne?

I’ll be honest although I have owned an Aero Veste des Rallye I’ve not had either a Barnstormer or a Cheyenne, so couldn’t say which of the two is a slimmer fit.
I have tried a Cheyenne on for size, and this is when I realised the hand warmer pockets were lower and so more comfortable and easy to use.
Not 100% sure but I believe the Veste des Rallye may be a looser fit than both the Barnstormer or Cheyenne, however I sold mine as I found I was preferring to wear a Teamster over the VDR and this wasn’t getting much wear.

I live in Vietnam and have never seen anyone wear a car-style leather jacket where I live, lol. The style here is mostly J100 look a like or double rider but personally I really like the car coat style. I thought it would be stand out to wear one out in public

I once owned an aero stockman and an veste de rallye as well. I then ordered a barnstormer with beautiful honey colour shearling. Sadly I decided to sell all three due to not wearing them much.

I’ve been wearing a mohair over coat to work for a decade and due to wearing a heavy backpack with laptop, even the hard wearing mohair fabric are showing thin patches.

This made me wonder if I can buy another car coat and wear it to commute to work as an overcoat. I’d prefer a suede or Roughout version as think this would blend in with a suit better.

What do you guys think? How many of you still own and wear a car coat regularly? Which brand/model? Pics would be amazing!

the Aero Shawl Collar Barnstormer is my absolute latest obsession... if you don't mind me asking, how useable do you find the CXL FQHH with the added weight of the shearling lining?

This is my second fqhh cxl with a shearling lining. My first one was a long half belt that I had stupidly specified made out of the thickest shearling and hide available. It was really heavy and bulky.
The barnstormer is made with a thin batch and much more comfortable- still heavy though. If I bought again I would go with a thin and pliable leather.

Go for something even lighter and more flexible. Battered or grainy steerhide, maybe goatskin if you are a size small enough.

Thought about those too, goarskin particularly seem to come up quite a bit recently...

Best bets are goatskin, pinnacle or Vicenza. I’d pick Vicenza as the drape is excellent. The SB car coat I have is in black Mustang HH - it’s thick but not too unwieldy. I bought it as a solid winter coat, so flexibility wasn’t my top priority. I rate Vicenza as a does-everything-well hide: good drape, fair thickness, great hand and somewhat similar to goat in appearance.

I agree, matter of fact my single rider Vicenza, although nice and sturdy is by far my most comfortable. The argument for goat would be that would be something new to me

I love car coats. To me the 70’s examples did them best. I love the ones Walter Dyer put out. High quality leather and cut well. Got 3rd en route to pair with these two!
