Hi everyone,

Hope the weekend's off to a good start - to anyone impacted by the weather in the States I hope you get to enjoy a quiet Sunday somewhere warm, with minimal shovelling.

I just saw this and want to share it - this is the new RMC Smoky Jim J-24.

From my perspective I really like the studs, but I'm not a fan of the new pattern, (I know it's brand new and not molded, but the body looks way too big on the model and the sleeves seem voluminous) and I'm troubled by the skull and "Smoky Jim" on the back panel - the puckering isn't good and will only get worse, I think, as the jacket breaks in.

Could they not have put some sort of backing between the leather and the liner to give the piece a bit of support?

Overall what do you all think about the jacket? Price is $4,842 USD.

As always, looking forward to your thoughts.

Chris

That's not my cup of tea at all. And when I look at the price, I can only shake my head. But hey, everyone has different tastes.

Price is even worse here. EUR 4.900.

At this point, it’s no longer whether I like it or not. I would feel plain silly investing that kind of money for something like this.

It‘s weird to see how RMC prices their signature models (J-24, J-100 and increasingly their A-2 range) out of the normal market.

I think this jacket is well suited for celebrities.
@MrProper I agree that the design isn't for everyone, but what's really hanging me up is the execution of the back panel - I would totally wear a studded jacket but this panel looks quite poorly done, almost homemade-ish. Once the jacket really starts getting broken in my worry would be that the design is going to pucker more and look even worse.

@Tom71 the price is a big consideration as well - that's a lot of money, and even if a person had it to spend for that much the options are almost endless outside of the Yve St Lauren, Tom Ford, Gucci, etc market. And again, that kind of money should buy you greater execution of the back, in my opinion.

@Bennarion we're going to see this popping up on social media soon for sure.

@Peter Mackin I think the front studs look good, it's just not well done at all from the back.

I saw this too and was puzzled. . I'm not an expert but wouldn't those studs in the back eventually pop out? Doesn't that area of the back bend and stretch?

Personally I like the studs except for the one on the back.. I think the back part is too much. I also don't like the wrinkles either.

I live close to that store so I'm going to try it on because I'm curious.

I think it's terrible I'm afraid.

Once upon a time in my youth I had a studded jacket, but I added those studs myself. That was the whole point - custom uniqueness.

But even my jacket looked less ineptly done than this one.

I won't comment on the price because I'm not in a position to buy at that sort of level so it's irrelevant.

Fit wise I think it looks OK, but everything else about it is a disaster in my opinion. Is the design on the back done intentionally like that so that the leather is meant to pucker up for some peculiar reason? I think it looks awful and extremely badly executed - but maybe Im not the target market and to some that is desirable.

I'm really puzzled by it - I do love me a studded jacket but that back panel is something else.

Does anyone have thoughts on how to do it correctly? Do you put a separate piece of leather on the inside between the back panel and the lining? What would reduce or eliminate that terrible puckering?

Should the studs be added to a separate piece of leather that is then sewn to the back panel? I've seen vintage-y Lewis Leathers fully studded out that are fantastic so clearly there's a way to do it.

Any thoughts are appreciated.

I agree, there has a to be a correct way to "stud" the back panel - and this one unfortunately has already been damaged by the way the studs were applied. I would think an under-panel of canvas or thicker leather would be a must.

The absolute pinnacle of poorly executed, poser class, **** poor trash. I would pay the asking price to not have to wear this absolute joke of a thing. Nothing short of a massive embarrassment. Repugnant.

Upon further inspection I can see that the back is in fact nothing more than a giant puckered ********. All of these made or in production should be burned, publicly, in a massive grease fire.
