Neatsfoot oil, done.

Manuel is wearing it outside in the sunshine to encourage the soak in. Took less then an hour to treat the whole jacket.

Once it's dried, I'll buff it over and see how it looks. Then it will be time to wax it.

Manuel earning his money again today, as I've finally got around to waxing this old Gap.

Hopefully a bit of sunshine will encourage the wax to soak in.

That's quite a bit of effort but the results have transformed the jacket into a keeper. An honorable mention goes to Manuel for his steadfast participation in your project. Maybe give him an evening out on the town to show your appreciation.

He's a trooper, that's for sure.

Re: the effort to fettle the jacket. I enjoy it, it's satisfying to do, it feels like achieving something, and in this case it's eliminated the big problem grease stain that marred the jacket before.

You're right, it's a definite keeper now. And at already 27 years old, it's got plenty of character to carry forward, refreshed for the next few years.

Another little update.

Plenty of time for the waxing to settle, and with some effort spent buffing it in, the ol' Gap is really showing off some lovely grain and colour depth in the sunshine.

Hey this is great! What kind of wax are you using? I'm gonna try to do mine. I've never used wax before - any tips?

I use Renapur.

It's a leather conditioner, but heavily wax based, so you can apply it as thickly or sparingly as you like. It responds well to warming, so sunshine or a hairdryer encourages it to permeate the surface. Then I buff it back with a microfibre cloth.

This old Gap is the first time I've combined it with neatsfoot oil as a pre treatment, and I'm really happy with the results.

The jacket is soft and pliable, very water resistant if I run it under the tap, and now it really shows off its colour and texture to the full.

Thank you, son of encouragement! By the time I get home it should be plenty warm to treat the jacket. Is neatsfeat oil neatsfeet oil or should I get something specific?

NOT the same photo as WJAYWT thread. Just similar.
Cool enough here now for daily wear jackets. Steerhide leather trucker today.
With our winter brewing this will be getting more outings.

On retracking the story of this 57 Heavy jacket in my stewardship it appears to be goat.
Makes it likely Pakistan manufacture.
Unless anyone can enlighten me ,?

Vanson Maverick II Thurston Bros exclusive with detachable shearling collar, Whisky Roma Cowhide, got it from a fellow forum member and he tastefully got the nickel button to be replaced by brass ones as well.

This one is size 42 and it felt a tad bigger, I think 40 would have fitted me like a glove, but hard to say not to such a beautiful jacket.

The only other thing I’m not quite sure about is the thickness of the leather, I probably got spoiled by Aero’s CXL FQHH and the Polish thick horsehide used by lots of Chinese leather jackets, this one felt so soft and thin, it’s very comfortable to put on but on the other hand I almost am a bit scared of tearing it lol
