Vintage Cal Straight zip Leather jacket

I am not an expert and I do not deal with leather so I might be wrong.... my personal method is to check the grain. I have 3 CALs all in HH and several other jackets both in HH and SH and you can see there is a typical even texture in HH, less "grainy", also in the older jackets. On the...

Vintage Cal Straight zip Leather jacket

From the grain of the leather I suppose it's steerhide.... Lovely jacket by the way

Comparison - Wesco Mr Lou to John Lofgren Engineer

Thank you for the interesting comparation. Imho you should add that JLs have a triple leather sole compared to the thinner single sole of Wesco....this alone is the detail that pushes me full force toward JLs

The ultimate badass jacket - what’s your pick?

Yes, of course. I am just wondering, like a cheap philosopher, whether an object can have a soul in itself or whether it is instead impossible to separate it from its owner...but I got your point

The ultimate badass jacket - what’s your pick?

Well, good argument! I agree with you but still I feel highly uncomfortable with the assumption that an object could really project a different image of yourself, I mean "for real".... Ok, a "badass jacket" coould be...but if you are a sloppy nerd you can buy all the "badass jackets" of the...

The ultimate badass jacket - what’s your pick?

Only a human being can be "badass", never an object.... Brando's Durable or Dean's CAL worn by a dadbodied middle aged nerd are not gonna be "badass" at all... If you want a "badass jacket" you need to be one, otherwise is just posing around and maybe being ridiculous. Sad but true

Anyone own a Heat Straps N1 deck jacket or Dehen 1920 N1?

I am a fresh owner of a Heat Straps Workhorse V5, mouton lined and with the 24oz waxed cotton on the outside (quite similar to their N1 but shorter). It's the heaviest jacket I own by far (and I have a few beasts in my closet) but also one of the comfiest ever....the mouton lining in the pockets...

    Who Gets to Wear Workwear?

Are you sure about that? I mean, full bespoke tailoring in Europe, from a well known tailor in a main city, do not goes under 6000 euros for a 2 pieces suit. In Naples, if you know the guy, you can find better prices from amazing artisans...but this is not accessible to everybody

    Who Gets to Wear Workwear?

Savile Row good tailors usually are between 8.000 and 10.000 euros...I doubt that David Himel has gone so far with his pricelist, as far as I know

    Who Gets to Wear Workwear?

Yes, I guess that's what we are, at least in part. The upside is that we keep some manufacturing/aestethic traditions alive, in a world that is running toward schizophrenia

    Who Gets to Wear Workwear?

I get your point but I'd like to say (sorry for my poor english) that here in Italy (no cowboys at all except a few fringe communities scattered here and there) the cowboy aestethic is popular in certain subcultures (rockabilly and biker) as a tribute to the man who lives in contact with nature...
