    Hey, Filson owners

You are absolutely right Bob, re-proofing the coat will reduce breathability. If you go high tech with a Goretex fabric you lose the abrasion resistance and that old school oil cloth look. I prefer to go with the high tech (Cabela's Goretex Guidewear) in warmer weather where no brush busting is...

    Hey, Filson owners

I have been wearing a variety of the shelter cloth coats in lousy weather for years-- no problems. If you are 5 years into the garment without issue it sounds like a re-finishing problem. Every year or two I send my oil cloth stuff to New England Reproofing in New Hampshire. For a few $$...

Alden 405 Indy Size vs RM Williams Size

I imagine that they will have to charge to ship to Australia. Shoemart sits all by itself on a little dead end street in Norwalk. You must have been there back in the day when Shoemart was still in Bridgeport. Seems like its been ages now. Could not find any Aldens today. They did have...

Alden 405 Indy Size vs RM Williams Size

Shoe Mart OneStar: I stopped into Shoemart today and spoke with my man Bob. He can guide you through the Alden 405 sizing. His email is bobpotts@optonline.net and they do ship to Australia. They have some really nice Aldens, especially a shell cordovan 405 in a deep Burgundy color...

Alden 405 Indy Size vs RM Williams Size

I usually wear a USA size 11EEE. The 10 1/2 EEE Alden 405 fits me perfectly. I live near one of the largest Alden retailers (Shoemart in Norwalk, Connecticut). I go there frequently and I would be happy to ask them if they have any further suggestions as to fit. Aldens are terrific, my...

    The Filson Thread

Thanks for the info albeit most disheartening. Perhaps it is time that Filson hears from a group of loyal customers voicing our collective displeasure with the quality slip.

    The Filson Thread

I hope more of us begin putting some thought into how the products we buy affect the people and the planet. The American style of consumption, buying lots of "stuff" at the cheapest price and tossing away outdated items, is so bad in so many ways. I hope to keep my American made Filson "Elmer...

    The Filson Thread

I hope Filson reverses course and keeps production in the USA. I will pay (a lot) more for superior quality domestic goods. Also I tell anybody who'll listen to buy American made Filson so the company gets free advertising. But if the classics get outsourced to Asia and the like, color me...

    The Filson Thread

The double Mackinaw is really great if there is mixed precip. (ie. snow and freezing rain). The inner layer stays dry and toasty even if the outer layer gets pretty wet. Of course the Double Mack is heavier and can get too warm. But I can always unbutton the coat to cool down and I'll carry a...

    The Filson Thread

Filson Fanatics Congrats on discovering Filson. Can't go wrong with a Mackinaw-- tried and true design, wears like iron. Also take a look at the Double Mackinaw. It's my go to coat when the temps dip into the single digits here in New England. I layer w/ a good mid-weight thermal and a...

Fat foot, high instep boot rec's.

Hard to find the Alden 405s in extra wide sizes though it is a really good boot. I would look into a boot from White's. The custom sizing is easy with the kit and the boots are great. You'll spend some real money but it will probably be worth every dime in the long run
