The brim is only 2 1/2", but I think the ribbon on the edge makes it look even bigger on me than it otherwise might. Will probably give it another good soak in the nap and see if anything else falls out of it. Will decide then what to do with it.
That liner is sweet - not one spot or smudge...
Here's everything I know about it...
Spotless lining:

This was pretty much all that was left of the sweat:

Found the 7 1/2 below at a resale shop. Unbelievably dirty at first; soaking in naptha helped but only did so much. Still needs lots of work. Original sweat was literally disintegrating at a touch - between that and the grime I got it for $15. But with no holes or damage anywhere, I figured...
Went back and checked out the hat block. It has the numbers 6 and 55 on it. I assume the 55 is that company's crown style, the exact meaning of which is probably now unknown.
Looking at your photo, your block's top is noticeably more angled than this one's is; it has a pretty well rounded...
Thanks, Brad. It is both block and flange. The flange had a really tight fit on the block; took me about 30 seconds of wiggling it back and forth to get it off. I don't know if that's how they're supposed to be or what. Anyway, the block is a plain dome shape, just like an open crown hat.
Now...
There were some other numbers stamped on it, but I have no idea what they meant and was mainly looking for size. And as you can see, I edited my first post to include the price they wanted (duh, how could I forget that).
Local antique store has a wooden 7 3/8 hat form. I took the pieces apart and examined them - it appears to be in excellent shape (and the dome was a dead match for the 7 3/8 I happened to be wearing).
I'm wondering what is the most those of you who have them, or would consider buying them...
I've had several old/elderly men look at my tan fedora, which I have been wearing frequently of late. On just a few of them I think the look in their eyes is a combination of a shrug and "Why would you wear that." No one has said anything openly though, but if one did ask me "Why do you wear...
That's been my thought too, though it's only been up into the low 80s - when it hits 90 with high humidity I may change my tune. So far, though, I've not sweat any more with than without it.
I do know if I hadn't put a strip of deerskin suede on the sweatband I doubt I'd be wearing it at all...
Not brim curl; it didn't have any to begin with. No, the hat seems to be slowly stretching itself out at the opening, where the brim meets the crown. All I knew to do was judge by eye how even the brim should be all around, then while it was wet I squeezed with fingers and ironed in a "crease"...
